I just don't get it Why the hell is your driving cab 2 storeys high. I understand that you need a better view. But why so high? All you need to see is slightly above the cars and Van views. I mean in the US the truck drivers are sitting in a much lower position. Even the Bus Drivers drive double buses and coaches. And they are sitting at a much lower position

ever thought on where the engine would go if it was a lot lot lower? the reason busses drivers sit low is because the engine is located at the back of the bus, the reason american trucks sit lower is because their engine is in a "nose" that makes it longer. in the uk and europe we use a "tunnel" making our cabs flat, this helps with the length restriction laws in the UK and rest of europe. Essentially they try make the cab of the waggon as small as possible to make the trailer bigger due to the length restriction. And as we use a tunnel (engine sits under the driver) the truck needs to be higher to A fit the engine and B have enough room around it for other compartments like fluids and also enough room for mechanics to see and get their hands in if work is required.

Quick question, I've got an assessment at Tesco RDC In Goole tomorrow at 7am. Pretty sure they are Culina trucks, Do you know what the assessment consists of? And should i be worried I haven't been in a truck since i passed my test in April 2023.

Sorry mate it's so late. I've never done an assessment in Tesco so I can't help. I suspect it's different from the basic one because they only deliver to supermarkets. Let me know how you get on.

@@povtruckdriveruk1873 No worries mate, I turned up for what i thought was an assessment/induction at 7am, because i've got no experience they put me with one of the senior drivers/instructors he basically went through everything with me, mainly going round the yard with a DAF H tractor unit to get used to driving again, then doing some walk around check the way ES wants you to do them, then coupled up to a trailer he went through the procedure, then we did a few laps around the yard, then onto some reversing i was terrible, after dinner we went on the road the drive went well, he said he couldn't believe how well i drove considering the 18 month gap since i passed my class 1, i was there about 8 hours in all, he is pushing for me to go on their buddying scheme, i will be out with an experienced driver for the next two weeks i will then have my assessment sometime after, he said there is a job there if i pass my assessment, the reversing is stressing me out.
