my dad was at school when it happened. somehow before it happened, he knew something like this was going to happen. the next day, he was right. he was in school at the time and the girl that sat next to him said, "didnt you say this was going to happen?" and he said "yes." God told him something that day. rip the victims who died on september 11th, 2001.

@@james_dinham 28* medals. But yeah, Swimming allows for absurd statpadding of medals, especially if American due to deeper talent pools meaning relays are historically easier. Summer Mcintosh will likely go for 6 individual in LA - which would be superior to Phelps 5... but Canada won't be able to bring her the relay ones to put her over the top for the 8 "total". Phelps wasn't even the greatest Olympian of his era. Bolt was.

Fidel Castro did not topple the government of Batista. The Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil toppled the government of Batista. Castro's communists then betrayed the DRE and took over the island for themselves. Fidel became Batista 2.0 with despotic Marxist tendencies, and the communists have ruled as self-serving Left fascist tyrants ever since.

The argument that we shouldn't invest in great cultural projects like space travel because there's still poor people, is beyond ridiculous. That was one of the primary arguments during the Apollo missions in the 60's. Investing in "diversity" is what, for all intents & purposes, shut down the American space program, & the beneficiaries of this investment are still poor. TRILLIONS of dollars have been invested in Africa, & they are still poor & perpetually on the brink of famine. "Give a person a fish & he eats for one day, teach him to fish, & he eats for a lifetime". Apparently not.

I can feel Ayn Rand rolling over in her grave at the suggestion we should hold back on space exploration until we’ve “fixed” inequality and poverty. Overall, I don’t find any of these reasons compelling as arguments. Challenges to overcome, most certainly. But not a reason that we shouldn’t try.

You know, we'd save a lot of 'resources' if we just stayed in bed and never did anything. Humanity is the only known form of matter in the universe that has a reasonable understanding of the universe. As Carl Sagan said, "We are a way for the universe to know itself". We've looked very hard for decades to find other intelligences and haven't seen any evidence of it at all. If life on earth were destroyed by an asteroid or other mass-extinction event, our unique intelligence would be gone forever from the universe. We should try to keep such a rare and special thing around, and the best way is to diversify our location to another planet. Mars is the best option.
@criticalevent

If life on earth were destroyed by blank, then life on Mars would be destroyed by blank. Mars isn't the new world, full of untapped resources, Mars is the moon but farther.
@chrispbacon4519
@chrispbacon4519 6 ай бұрын
@@criticalevent The chances of a life-ending asteroid strike or a gamma-ray burst hitting both Earth and Mars within a million years is almost non-existent, like 1 in a billion. There's virtually no other kind mass-extinction event that can hit both planets, not for billions of years. Until humans can permanently establish ourselves on another planet we're vulnerable to extinction. Mars is better than the moon for habitation because its gravity is much closer to ours and it has more water than the moon. It's also further away in the event of a gamma-ray burst that could hit either planet, but probably would hit both Earth and the moon if it hit Earth. Humans should go to Mars just to ensure we preserve ourselves longer so we have a better chance of finding how to get to more Earth-like planets in other star systems.

none of these are reasons not to go , just cautionary measures. Not to mention , mars first travelers will be privately funded by space x .. Furthermore, the money spent on mars missions would never reach good causes on earth.. That never happens,, Look at all the homeless we have in the USA, and look how much money is going to fund wars overseas. Its not a binary issue ( where money saved from cancelling nasa would end hunger or even impact it ) money doesnt circulate in this idealistic way, it gravitates to causes that either generate money or generate political power.
