As far as Funk and dancing. I think different types of Funk fit different styles of dancing. Locking and Breaking go better with loose feeling songs. "Express" by BT Express and 'The Pride" by the Isley Brothers go better with Locking. "Just Begun" by Jimmy Castor and "Rock Creek Park" by the Blackbyrds go better with Breaking. Songs with tighter snappy beats like "Men All Pause" by Klymaxx and "Cutie Pie" by One Way go better with Popping.

Ironically, no disrespect, but Skeeter Rabbit was an 'early popper', i.e. he did not always dance on beat and tended to rush. Also he and a lot of the other boogaloos claimed only boogaloo is proper popping. But popping includes styles like tutting, waving, gliding, and others alongside boogaloo. So you don't have to boogaloo at all and you can still call yourself a popper (see Compton style poplocking, Pomona G-style, the most dominant style: bopping). EBs brainwashed the world, that's why you still see so many cats in Asia and Europe boogalooing. When in fact a lot of them would look better bopping. On another note, you can see that EB includes a lot of puppet influence in their boogaloo, a lot of leg angles and agile quick leg movements. Skeet's hits were not crispy or defined (limitations of his understanding of hitting)--they didn't pop out on video--which is why it's sometimes hard to see the beat in his dance. He also adds little flares and 'double movements' to his feet (again, puppet influence), which is more of a visual distraction than anything, that can make the overall movements ambiguous and cloudy. He has outstanding speed, agility, and balance for such a big guy, and his boogaloo head sweeps had a ton of physical momentum (you can see how puppet-like his head sweeps are, again, because EB used puppet as one of its primary bases). But he was a prototype, i.e. he was not a modern popper who has access to a lot more styles and concepts, and unfortunately, he toed the EB line and proclaimed EB as the only correct and true way to pop. RIP Skeeter Rabbit.

Me from the UK, I was a UK first generation Dancer Body Popper from 1982 so I can appreciate the genius of Skeeter Rabbit, who is definitely in the Hip Hop, and Street Dance Hall of Fame. The Dancing in this video was amazing.

Much respect. He explained it perfectly. The rhythm and the beat are #1. If you can't feel it, you probably shouldn't be dancing.

I've been preaching this for like the last 10 years... I feel that many of the competitions lack the soul of popping because the new music they try to push is usually so bad... They are trying way too hard to be different when they should be utilizing all the old funk and electro music that is untapped, or making new music in the same genre.

@@in_vas_por8810 couldn’t agree anymore bro!!! I’m in Japan and situation here is no better. The essence of “popping” or funk style dance is lost because they don’t play the right music anymore( old school funk). The beat they play is either loops or one without any musical structure. People here can’t even tell you what is the definition of funk music, they only know it’s an old type of music 😢😢

Hey dude, I love this video, and I want to ask for your permission to share this video to some other websites in China. You know for some embarrassing reasons, KZbin is blocked from accessing in China. But I sincerely want more poppers in China to know about the thought of this legend. Of course I will give the sources of the original websites. Looking for your reply, thank you very much!!!
