These modules can be found on sale at DrivthruRPG. They all look very nice, on the surface. But, they also average costing 8 bucks Canadian. 8 bucks for an 8 page pdf is just as crazy as a 20 page pdf. For a game from the dim past of role gaming. Considering the sheer volume of previously available materials of this sort (AD&D type adventures), asking me to pay this price is really a serious WTF? moment. Maybe if I were rich and stupid and I am neither. I pondered just downloading them, but I DO have almost everything already. Maybe I'd be interested for a buck a pdf. But for 8 bucks, they can keep them.

It's 50 brand new low level spells, 50 spells that probably look familiar, and 50 "discount spells" that could still be industrialized -- like toast and de-toast bread.

I bought this one and the follow ups. I haven't read through the module completely, but it starts with a party hunting down some mysterious creatures who have stolen some oxen and theoretically kidnapped some people. The PC's come to an area where a river cuts into a hill and they follow it underground. Their are two descents past waterfalls into the cave complex. How exactly are the sinister shrooms getting the Oxen down there to process them? I'm busy building an abattoir in room one and provided a track entrance to lead the oxen down. The rest of it seems very interesting and nicely, creepily twisted. Thanks for the review

My take on it? They just walk them to the waterfall cliff, then toss them over. The ox dies, but there interested in it for it's . . . raw materials, which don't need to be in any particularly good shape. They'll drag the carcass from there. I've had a young black dragon in that first chamber a couple of the times when I have run it. The dragon just brought the shroom the troll in area 16b. It might enjoy an oxen as well as other payment from the shroom.

@@composedreamgames1919 Oh I see. I noticed that they were saddle stitched and not perfect bound, and I'm under the impression that the latter is all you can get via POD, whether from DTRPG or Lulu. I was able to find a picture of the interior of one of their hardcover compendiums, which by the looks of it seems to show that they haven't allowed for a gutter margin on their POD products. Saddle stitching, at least, would sidestep that issue.

I didn't call it a review. Looking at 43 modules in depth would make for a multi-hour video. I have looked at #1 Pod-Caverns of the Sinister Shroom in depth kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5uWmnWNrKeSkLM and #36 Aerie of the Cloud Giant Strategos kzbin.info/www/bejne/o53VmYqAjrGDrs0, and plan to look at more of these in more depth in the future. Some final thoughts I meant to share with James: Fight to Survive has a few key things going for it. A) a strongly focused genre that the game is emulating B) a unique mechanic - a procedural choice based diceless system. Just like choosing rock, scissors or paper, the choice the player makes determines the outcome, this supplies an intriguing random/risk element. C) generational play - this is pretty rare in RPGs but lots of folks find it intriguing. I'll also add D) an experience game developer behind the helm, who runs lots of games. I did recognize the old name of the game "Metro City Blues" from times I'd seen it running at Phantasm. Looking forward to the Fight to Survive launching, getting my hands on the game, and seeing it in action at the table.

Nice! The real question is, can anyone make write a cosmic story that actually makes me care?
@composedreamgames1919
@composedreamgames1919 3 жыл бұрын
This is a good question. Cosmic tier characters can be less relatable. I don't read a lot of cosmic stuff. Invincible heads into "galactic" stories towards the last 30 issues especially - exploring alien worlds, fighting armadas. But this stays relatable mostly by having a strong focus on his new family (wife and daughter in particular, but also his brother).

Big fan of Fraser's games, I love that his systems reward describing how you are using your traits to accomplish actions. It feels more narrative than mechanical and is so satisfying. I believe Nefertiti Overdrive was the first of his games that I played and it was just oodles of fun. Highly recommend.
