I took lessons from Jon 25-ish years ago. I used to bring him some super-shreddy metal solos for him to listen to. He would listen to them and then play them back on his guitar. Guitar playing always seemed to come as a 2nd-nature to the guy. Effortless. Amazing!

What a true song. I open my heart to our lord jesus sometimes and try to hide my pain at other times. Our lord knows our pain all of the time. We can't hide anything from him so why do we try. He sees everything. 🙏♥️🇺🇸

Will I get the same out of a coding boot camp as I would from freecodes website?
@MikeBoardley5 жыл бұрын
Yes and No. You will get the same education but you will have to find people the web community to help you when you get stuck as opposed to having a cohort or other developers to bounce things off of as well as the instructors. One way to overcome this is go to local web coding meetups. Networking is KEY in this business. Got to a site like meetup.com or just search for local Javascript and Web Development meetups in your area. That way, when you do get stuck, you will have local people you can reach out to. The other benefit to doing a coding Bootcamp if you have to do it within a certain amount of time otherwise you will fail and not graduate. There is more structure and discipline as opposed to learning on your own. I prefer to learn on my own where as others prefer to learn in a classroom. You have to decide how you learn best.

Great advice man. I just send them the my affiliate link made in my site with the Redirector plugin and have them forward their welcome email to me with user and pass. Folks can still make money this way with recurring affiliate commissions without the hassles you spoke of. Many people need to hear this.

"design is a subjective thing, programming is not... it either works or it doesn't" You hit the nail on the head. I've been a graphic designer for 25 years but I enjoy programming. Maybe its because I like fixing things that are broke, or creating functional tools and websites. Designing is definitely difficult - you can pour your heart and soul into a fantastic design that the client may frown upon. Hitting a creative block can also cause chaos, but when I fix a jquery error, or repair broken websites... I don't have to worry about "creative block" LOL. Your videos rock man! I am getting inspired to restart my freelance work thanks for your vids.

Your video is excellent. I started off as sort of a "scrapper". I had a client that needed a WordPress website built in 2 weeks. My response was "what is WordPress?". lol. So, I learned it over the weekend enough to build a site out and give them what they desired. Now, I work in Genesis framework, work with functions.php on a regular basis, write all of my own CSS no problem. The issue I have is sales and working with clients directly. I'm accustomed to doing the work for an employer, or an art director - not necessarily knocking on doors. That is my biggest obstacle - being the "face" of the company! Anyway, great work Mike. I really like your videos - you lay it out in truth and detail. No fluff, all real!

I think you are right. It works the other way too: As a web and database developer most skilled in C# and SQL, I've now learned vue.js, ECMAScript 6, webpack, node, npm, babel, Jenkins, ...and the "things" keep coming. If I roll with it and take it on as it comes, I do fine, but if I am afraid of it, I will pigeonhole myself and lose the ability to give value to my employer. No one demands that I learn in a few hours, but the ability to learn quickly is more important than any library or style.

After you have your clients create their own account for web hosting(like on HostGator), do you ask for the credentials for them so you can do things, like install WordPress? I am wanting to build a WP site for someone and was going to host it on my HostGator account until I heard it was a bad idea. Also, after WP is installed on their host, do I have them create and admin account on WP and give them to me until I’m done creating it? Thanks man.
@MikeBoardley6 жыл бұрын
You can host it on your Hostgator account if it's a low traffic site. I generally tell clients what to sign up for by sending them the link and then have them forward me their welcome email from the hosting company.

Dude everything you said is spot on and I love coding, I’m currently building a portfolio page and the frustration that I feel is insane but the reward value is so much greater, but I really want to do a boot camp to just propel my skills a little faster am I crazy or what?
@MikeBoardley7 жыл бұрын
No.You're not crazy. If you think you need to do a Bootcamp, then go for it! Just keep in mind that while a bootcamp will be helpful, your skills as a web developer is a journey where growth happens over time. I see a lot of people think because they've been to a bootcamp that they're ready for anything but then they struggle to build a webpage without Bootstrap. So do a bootcamp but be humble and realize you're on a journey. Relax when you get frustrated. Just keep walking the Web Dev road and as time goes on, the road will become less rocky and less difficult. Thanks for your comment! Good luck to you.

I am curious, what did you decide to do after making this comment two years ago? I am just beginning my full stack web development bootcamp journey and and trying to take everything in.
@oakleyorbit4 жыл бұрын
@@jwsmith8611 I didn’t do the boot camp! And honestly you really shouldn’t but that is up to you it’s your path. I have a job now as a full stack dev and I’m really stoked. But the mistakes I made along the way I wish I could have corrected. 1. DO NOT just copy code from tutorials, I mean do the tutorial but try break it and learn how to fix it( traversy media is the best you’ll learn a lot and his Udemy courses are cheap!) 2. Spend a small amount of time learning css and html, unless you want to be a designer UX, I’d say 6months. 3. Spend all your time on pure JS this is the fundamental in everything you do in your application and only when you really think you know do more it’s essential!! There’s so much for me to say but it’s hard to write on KZbin if you want shoot me your email and I’ll disclose everything that I think is important.
