There is also a flanger or phaser on some of the vox tracks on I stay away (and probably most AIC vox) Which helps with that haunting sound they get in the studio

Layne isn't a guitar player? 🤦‍♂️😅 So what's he doing here perfectly? 🤔🤦‍♂️ He played, he just wasn't seen playing much but he wrote guitar parts in Madseason and some AIC songs. He played Rhythm.

Hello! Have not looked if you've done this, BUT!!! "Bleed The Freak" live at the Moore, is insane. If you haven't done so, please listen. And.... I admittedly have had this problem with Jerry. Jerry said once, "Layne is my voice " and, I think, Layne is his own voice. Sometimes I think Jerry used Layne as a work horse. Then, it was biting to me that Jerry found a replacement for Layne and continued Alice In Chains. One, Alice In Chains as a band name was originally one of Layne's band called Alice 'n Chains, before the duo met, and then I found it unfathomable that Jerry replaced Layne. Layne was the dog who did his work on the fire hydrant of AIC. No one can fake crying or tears. Sure they can mimic. Sometimes I think about Layne's suffering, but most of AIC's lyrics were written by Jerry, and I begin to wonder why Jerry's lyrics were so riddled with Layne's destructive journey. I know nothing, but I never thought of Jerry suffering, like in "Down In a Hole" which he wrote. So... I need to thank you regarding gaining appreciation for Jerry a little more for other reasons having watched your videos. It's helped me resolve some issues why there felt some broken pieces of Alice as a unit, even though they were perfect all together. I am bothered, in an excellent way, how Jerry on guitar can sound like a wailing confused and angry beast, or a supreme unsettling unpredictable storm settling in over your house. I haven't looked into how Jerry composes his bass to go with Layne's multi vocal harmonies, or Layne harmonizing over Jerry's musical composition. The chicken or the egg conundrum. It's so fascinating. In the "Bleed the Freak" video live at the Moore, Jerry's harmonized vocals are truly highlighted, because they're live, so it rather distinguishes his voice better, and Jerry's notes are super eerie like Layne's are. I hope you'll check it out! Maybe you have!

After all your analyzes I wonder, how much country and blues actually ended up as a sum in AICs total discography. And especially, which elements of those are preferred, because I think I recognized, if you change the whole set of instruments or the general presentation, you also could make literally country or blues with their songs. Would look forward to a video about this.

@taylor John Hardin Layne just was so high that he nodding when he sing all show. Hee even don't remember his own song and have a lyrics a front of.That's why he have the black glasses, and when not he just can't open eyes. It's different when you look at his eyes on Rooster, high af, at the end of show he is like him, person, not lifeles dead who stick his arm in WC, That's why in nutshell he came to chair, when others was on their places. And gains black glasses, gloves, nodd and that characteristic smile. after shot. And i LOVE Layne. but as addicted for 8 years i just can tell all of that thing, and see them. We can see addicted man, who now he can;t stop, withour hope, just waiting for dead, and he know she was just step of him so fuckong sad. But still was fenomenal, noone before, and after will have that talent, and sad thing's that "friends" konws he died after 2 weaks, and police was not even sure is that he, cause rotten and how he look.and they must take one of his last teeth to be sure. <3 Just love to watch someone who loves Layne like I do ^^ P.S Sorry that might be gurgle but english isn't my native language and know it's pretty shitty :D

I don't know if you've done, "Rain When I Die", (DO IT!!) as of yet, but I've listened to professional reactions of the lyrics and thoughts of reactors to what he is saying; and people tend to analyze that when the word rain is forth put, it refers to a washing or cleansing-ness that comes with rain, letting the dirt swirl away with the stream, down a drain, watch it go from brown and grey to clear, to leave him, finally; almost biblically, if I've got the general idea. But, what I hear is he's telling us his story through words, like poets do, the same messages with different ways to express them, different ways to emote feelings birthed from even 1 experience.... I hear he says, - and I'm thinking it's Demri, (who upsets me), who's upset him and unsettled him, trapped him; (but that's me being protective of him ~ yet, maybe we have her to thank "somewhat" for provoking his deep feelings in songs like these...) (grammatical erring all over the place here) - is when he releases "Did she call my naa~aaaaay~aaeeh~ mmmhhhhh ---- I think it's gonna raiyyyy~eeh~eaaayynh~ahheehh - auuuhhhn ~~ . When I die....", ~~ is it hope he's heard, but he's unsure, did he hear her say his name? Can he finally scream on a mountain top to let all the skies and pagan maybe out there, he's heard his name called, can the rain, been too heavy, can he pinprick the overly taut film over his skin of self open the gates of profoundly hardened yet overwhelmingly supple humidity he carries within; will that echo assure him it's okay now; he's been haunting, haunted, and lingering over spans of meaningless confusing cruel time, waiting for permission from another, not of his own, to release the rain, allow it to fall on and fill him in joy he can recall as he tasted it ~~ a sobering approval he can allow the swelling of his blister to burst and release his madness, he's not forgotten (if even only by his loved one, dead) or lost sight of, and he can come home now, finally tell his one recipient all ~ might he be in one piece again, find peace, did she call his name, he can put on his backpack and travel back to her, get the boost to the up to the top of his mountain (his suicide mission) where he's been waiting to go ~ (maybe???? thoughts?) It's a love song. I see visuals through his emphasis and the emergency of urgent words so carefully and well hidden for his own protection. He's leary and tired. Did her hear her call his name? or was it her ghost? Art History Major here, yapping. Working out expression, an analysis of psyche

The brilliance of his breaking into the word "Sunshiiiiiine" is that it sounds like maybe you've been lingering off in a field of life surrounding you, fields of flowers, waives lapping on shore, like daydreaming on a lounge chair in the sun, eyes closed, thinking freely, dopey, vulnerably, and sleepily, then suddenly your eyes pop open in clarity, and boom! your entire being is awoken and your senses have burst before you like a gift, and inside you wail in praise of enlightenment and simplicity and elation of light, your own primal being ~ SUNSHINE ~ ~~~~ plays out like breathing, being alive

Over Now is one of my favourites from self-titled because of the haunting Jerry guitar. The song moves from light and cheerful to melancholic while Jerry says goodbye to his band through the beautiful sad soundscape he creates. A little David Gilmour in tone.
