There’s a difference between economic/financial migrant and other types of migrants. In my opinion, people should deliberate on their objective before making the move. I went to graduate school in the US (after completing my undergrad in India), and I really appreciated how students were challenged to think outside the box and question the professors (while still being respectful). I can see first hand now how this culture is inculcated starting from elementary school (now that my daughter is kn school). We may talk about multiple CEOs being from India. But many of them did their higher studies here and were groomed for leadership here. Most of the research in the world is still out of US universities. This country is a land of opportunities even for those who might be not naturally academically inclined but have other skills. The focus on well-rounded development in schools is what works for my family. We go to India every year (my daughter is 10 and is equally comfortable in India as in the US). And our parents know that the connectivity is so good now that we can fly the moment they need us. But, then, to each their own.
