Good to know! Which wire controls the blinkers? There are three wires going into that connector on my car, a red, brown, and a yellow with black stripe. Only a blue leaves the other end so that’s why I suspected that the connector also would feed the cruise if equipped
@CougarsUnlimited20 күн бұрын
Useful video that explains how the typical '67-72 Ford turn signal switch pin locking tang works and can be released. The factory tool (AMP 465644-1 Pin Extractor) can be used but is very fragile. Note: The three pin connector powers the side turning lights (on the fender). They are not for the cruise control.

This video is a huge help, thanks for taking the time to document and go through everything. I really couldn't find anything online or in the forums on how to remove the trim and i was not looking forward attempting to do mine as my roof is in similar shape. I'm still not looking forward to it, taking the trim off is a huge job and not having a garage to keep my car in makes everything that much harder but with this video im sure i can get it done now. Thanks again

I’m glad to hear it helped you. Yeah I feel you there, I didn’t have a garage until a couple months ago, and it’s just the one stall because it’s rented but it’s a huge blessing. I’ll hopefully get the other segments filmed within a month

@@Max.Simmons not exactly sure…I’ve heard that LED lights don’t work well on these older systems or at least not certain LED bulbs. Did they work before? If they did then I assume that’s your problem. You could also check online Cougars Unlimited. They sell a lot of bulbs and other electrical things that work on the thunderbirds (cougars and thunderbirds share some electrical components) I think they only sell through third party sellers, such as eBay but you could call Vince and ask him he’s very helpful. They make a LED taillight bulb for the thunderbird so they may have other offerings as well. Hope that helps
@Thunderbird1968Ай бұрын
@@Max.Simmons sorry I missed this comment. Yeah I agree, check your fuse. The light blue wire controls all your dash lights. If you have a test light that helps. Fuse would be my first guess, then double check your light switch because I found out if it’s not mounted correctly the reostat spring won’t contact the tab inside the switch

Love the videos on the 68 tbird man. Very hard to find info on how to do anything with them even with the shop manuals. Curious question do your wipers work on high and low? Mine seem to only work on low. And one more question how did you/do you find vacuum leaks. Everything's vacuum and I wouldn't doubt I have a few lol.
@Thunderbird19682 ай бұрын
@@SmileyRiley66 I’m glad to hear that! Yeah my wipers work full range…I made a short on fixing wipers because all it took for me was to take the cowl off and manually work the wiper lever coming out of the pump. Also could check to make sure you have enough power steering fluid (type F transmission fluid). Finding vacuum leaks in the car I found normally you can hear a distinct hissing noise. I had a couple inside the car that were very loud. I ended up gutting almost all the vacuum system on my car, except for the drivetrain vacuum lines. Hope that helps

i also have a 68 white tudor, you've actually helped me on my build with some interior things i wasnt sure about. So cool to see another bird like mine. The only issue i have with running wheels that aren't hub centric is that all of the load from bumps and potholes hit the studs and the studs only. So at that point the only thing keeping your wheels mounted to the car is also taking all of the force from impacts and the weight of the vehicle. i still run them on my bird and my comet but its always in the back of my mind that one hard pot hole and the studs could break. Also when you tighten the wheel, go in a star pattern starting with the bottom left, top and then bottom right and the wheel will be centered to the axle
@Thunderbird19683 ай бұрын
@@austin3627 I’m glad I was able to help. Yeah I see your point, but like I showed with the feeler gauge the rim is not actually touching the hub anyway, so technically it’s only the nuts holding the tire, although like you I prefer matching Hubs
