I keep enough gas cartridges, so If it doesn't work I can use my gas burner to generate some heat, I know it can really get cold in winter vanlife😉 nice video 👍
@jessicakleczka17 сағат бұрын
Thank you Henry! ☺️ We don’t have gas in the van, everything runs on solar so it’s not an option for us sadly! But the campfire helped and we also bought an extra duvet since then which has made a world of difference!

Your videos are captured and edited very beautifully! Hint: never invest in white products when it comes down to stuff that actually can save your life in vans: diesel heating, charge controllers, insulation etc.
@jessicakleczkaКүн бұрын
Thank you so much! ☺️ The guy who installed our diesel heater has replaced it free of charge now (will cover this in a future video), turns out it was a rare fault and we just got unlucky. But we are considering getting a wood burner in the future because there’s less tech that can go wrong!
@dayofdaysdotbeКүн бұрын
@ I wouldn’t do that. Too much extra weight, too much risk of intoxication etc. Try to save money for a Webasto diesel heater instead. They are the best, very economical and they are very trustworthy!
@jessicakleczkaКүн бұрын
Different things work for different people 🤗
@dayofdaysdotbe22 сағат бұрын
@ Of course! You need to follow your heart. It’s just a hint from somebody with technical experience, that’s all. Don’t get me wrong, I like cozy fires as well, but I wouldn’t like them in a van (too dangerous, too much risk on intoxication etc). In any case, if you install it, don’t forget a decent fire resistant wall cover behind the fire stove and install a combined CO2 and smoke detector. Or a triple detector that also detects sleeping gas to avoid being robbed. They exist on batteries and 12V as well.

Really like the look of your van. You're shower is great. I take it the hot water is heated by gas as your wild camping. What water heater did you use.
@jessicakleczka2 күн бұрын
Thank you! There is no gas in our van, everything runs on solar 🙂 We used to have a 12V hot water boiler at the start, but got rid of it after two months because we never used it 😆 we’re quite happy with cold showers and on the rare occasion we want warm water, we just boil a kettle and dunk our heads in a bucket!

@jessicakleczka you too! Yes, your creative side is expressed well and authentically here. It's nice to see and I beg you to keep hold of it and your integrity when sharing online. It's a refreshing change and far more meaningful and memorable. I know there are certain ways to get views and higher traffic that may come with conforming to whatever is currently trending or popular, but I hope you avoid this pitfall and grow organically whilst keeping true to yourselves and, most importantly, actually enjoying the experience for yourselves with a view to also share it, as opposed to the experience being mainly for the viewer and you as a vessel to pander to the audience at the other side of the screen at a loss to your own autonomy, enjoyment and spirit. All the best for 2025.

Thank you for this important reminder! And yes, I know what you mean - even sharing this video, I was asking Risi “are we being too dramatic focusing on the failed heating?” because stuff just doesn’t go wrong that often in the van 😅 but I hope I’ve struck an ok balance showing both the realities and beauty of it all! Happy new year ✨

New here and have to say your video was beautiful and calming. As is your van. A van I can only every dream off. Currently living full time in a small transit connect in Scotland so cold temperatures I can relate too. I have no heating set up apart from a small butane heater only used in extreme weather. But my saving grace is an electric blanket. Possibly something you’d be interested in should your heating fail again. I look forward to your up coming videos, keep as you are and stay true it’s a rareity. All the best 😊

Thank you so much Louise, we spent last August/September in Scotland and it was beautiful! 🧡 If I’m completely honest, we wish we had bought a smaller van sometimes to save more money, but we will cover this in an upcoming video! Electric blanket is a great idea, it’s on the to-buy list together with sleeping bags 🥰
@domtekos77612 күн бұрын
@jessicakleczka haha yes the larger vehicles are at a cost that comes with the additional space. Also, the restriction of roads and ability to get to some spots. We got an actual lorry. It's bloody massive! 😂 Electric blankets are one of the best inventions going. A winter must have.
@LouiseRussell-t9g2 күн бұрын
There always has to be sacrifices in life. You won’t be disappointed purchasing a low wattage blanket. I have a single, it cost £12 and draws 35w. As sad as I am I’ve worked it go out to be 9% per hour! Not much when you have a garaunteed cozy night sleep 😊😴
@jessicakleczka2 күн бұрын
Definitely something for next winter, I’ve already put together a “to buy” list and might make a video about it when the time comes! Luckily our heating is fixed as of today ☺️

Thank you! I thought about it a lot because I didn’t want it to be tied to van life (we want to try other forms of off-grid travel and renovate an old cottage in the mountains one day), plus I’ve always been a restless person who moved around a lot. Nature is the only place I’ve ever felt truly home, so putting down roots in the wild felt like a fitting description of our lifestyle ☺️🌿

It's really incredible what the cold does to your brain function. You can't think straight. It's like the world becomes a tunnel and all your brain is telling you to do is get to the warm sun at the end of that tunnel. And we did indeed find that warm sun! Though the way Italians are dressing, you wouldn't know it. They're still wearing huge coats like it's below freezing in 15+ degrees.

My god this speaks to my soul. Only up to 3:30... But it's what I've wanted to do for so long. Is where I am happiest. Not so practical now caring for older family member, and having some mobility issues courtesy of some complications in recovery from a truck accident many years ago .. but what you two are doing... It speaks directly to my soul. The rustic finishes, the freedom. The tranquility, the intentional slowing down. The freedom. Connection to the seasons. Mobility. Freedom haha
