My partner was seen at Mayo Clinic and she is on a 200mg dose of Topiramate and has Naproxen and another medication that she takes as needed. We were told to have her take the medication for 3 months to see the effects. The new medications weren't mentioned. Is this something we should speak to the doctor about?

I've been suffering cluster headaches for 40 years. This year I made a discovery. For some reason, I managed to go for 3 years without a cluster. Then this year, around late September/October they returned with a ferocity that I hadn't experienced before. I'm talking about a cluster headache every two hours, throughout the day and night, with the pain off the scale. So I started to try and work out what was different about those 3 years and, in particular, these past few months. The answer? The weather. Bear with me.... I'm in the UK and 2024 was a particularly poor year for the weather. Our summer didn't really arrive. The main feature of the weather during that time was clouds. It was cloudy for most of the year so we didn't see much of the sun at all. I then began to wonder if, as a result of the lack of sun, that my vitamin D levels were low. So I took a Vitamin D deficiency test (£8 from Boots) and it showed that I was indeed deficient. I began using a Vitamin D supplement (I use a spray which delivers 4000IU) and after a couple of weeks my headaches had reduced to their normal levels of a couple per day/night. After a month of use the headaches have more or less gone. Now, I'm not saying that vitamin D deficiency is the cause to most cluster headache sufferers, but it's no coincidence that most of us suffer more in the autumn, spring and winter, when the sun is low. This means that our body's ability to absorb vitamin D is greatly compromised. In fact, it's quite likely that most people in the UK are vitamin D deficient to some degree without actually knowing it, and this is mostly due to our poor or inconsistent weather. If you think you might be defficient in Vitamin D go and get a test. You've got nothing to lose, especially as it may well help with the frequency of attacks as well as the severity of them. Our bodies need this vitamin for all sorts of reasons, particularly for bone strength, so even if it doesn't reduce your headaches, it will at least provide your body with a much-needed boost during the times of the year when we don't get much sun.

Shadow boxing cures mine within 10 min every single time. It has to be a hard core, make yourself sweat and breathe hard shadow boxing. Mixed with jumping Jax and jumping squats to get your cardio going. I’m sure it’s just the fact that I get my blood pumping and oxygen flowing heavy that helps, so try it and come back to let me know if it works. I’ve suffered from clusters for 15 years and this is the only thing that has helped demolish the headache fast.

If you are also skipping your breakfast and other meals, and taking zero nutrition, taking zero amount of nuts, fruits, and greens, like me, then please, please start it now. Just eat three or four soaked almonds in the morning because you have a magnesium deficiency because you are getting headaches in your periods, and also take greens or iron and magnesium supplements you can take also, and be in the sun for some time in the morning for vitamin D. I know you are not taking any kind of sunlight and any kind of vitamin D, and you are doing a very stressful job, so do the techniques of reducing stress and build your mindset like that, so you do not have to stress all day, and do a physical activity in the evening or in the morning, it just can be a walk, or simply 10 minutes stretches, or playing badminton, bicycling, anything, but do it for one month, and your next period will be so calm, and you do not have to cry for a headache, it's not hormonal, it's not for estrogen, whatever, it's about your health. I was suffering from it, like it was extreme pain, but when I did this, I found out that I have magnesium, vitamin D, and iron deficiencies, so I worked on them, and now my periods go really calm, and I do not have any headache, it can be cramps, but headache will not bother you, so please try it, please, I genuinely want to help you. English is my second language so please do not mind the mistakes I made but please I'm here to comment just for you to try it take care of your health as much as you can . and DRINK WATER .

I brain freeze myself and it helps with Clusters better than any medication. It reduces the time spent suffering and kinda reduces the pain. Sometimes I alternate the ice with a hot rag. I wait till the brain freeze from my ice starts, than immediately replace it with the hottest rag I can stand. Repeat until Cluster headache is gone. This is better than any medication I promise. It’s not immediate, but definitely reduced the pain and time spent suffering. Also, as soon as you feel the slightest pain about to start, go get the ice. That is your Q to get your ice and freeze your brain.

10 minutes in and I've heard the word medicine/medication/prescription more than i can count. Ive heard nothing about diet, nutrition, mental health, natural management prevention & mitigation methods of the above. I've heard nothing about filing for a disability, or free disability resources. We don't know what resources we have access to, our rights, and to get help with challenges. Ive heard no discussion on hiring and career search and retention. 17:00 ish - 25:00 ish they touch on disability forms and accomodations but we need to know more about our rights. I found this section hopeful about changes though. But not everyone has support systems. I love this chat though. 😅 Thanks for the discussion. It was especially nice hearing from a fellow experiencer. And know other people have similar extended durations of attacks.

I'm just coming off a cluster now…into the post-cluster phase where I'm all goofed up. Mine strike at 8:30 in the evening. This has been an awful allergy season and my body had enough. O2 helps me as does Zofran since I get severe nausea along with the 10+ pain, and anxiety. Fingers crossed I successfully stopped it, though i live in fear for the next one every time I go through this. I am glad he got help, there are a few head pain specialists in the US and in other countries (I see one in Chicago). I get migraines and clusters. I would not wish this pain on my worst enemy.

However, I wake up with a basic headache when I awake and when I go to bed. It's not the worst pain I've ever had by far.

I wouldn’t say the MRI is useless. I had one today because I have sudden onset of migraine auras (everyday for months) & stroke-like symptoms (may be hemiplegic migraine etc). So they can’t just diagnose it as migraines without ruling out possible brain tumors, stroke, etc. That’d be dangerous
@jake73965 ай бұрын
I’ve also had previous head injuries and migraines don’t run in family btw. I did have some traditional type migraine without auras after my last head injury here and there but nothing like now. Now I have all these weird neurological deficits and prior to that was diagnosed with narcolepsy which they are suspecting possible epilepsy now instead of narcolepsy. Who knows but the MRI is necessary. Even if it doesn’t actually show anything.
