I'm ready to do this to my exact motor. I actually have a visible leak from one of my main tilt Cylinder. My only concern is trying to rebuilt the tilt Cylinder in place by removing the pin like you were trying at first. I'm afraid I won't be able to do the job because it's Sandwiched in between the brackets and require to remove the bracket and steering to complete the job. I want to start by removing the pin and trying to work with the Cylinder in place. How sure are you I can rebuild the the Cylinder if I can successfully remove the pin? Any suggestions?

Was the trim fluid leaking? If so where was it leaking?

That pin is called a trilobe pin and it’s made to shear off when you drive the larger tilt rod pin out. You don’t reuse trilobe pins. Just let it shear off then clean the pieces out of the pin, etc to drive a new trilogy pin in.

I have same motor 96 mercury 200hp I need to do this aswell since my seals are leaking. What all do I need to do job??

Dude, its a 30 min job to replace and about 2 hours if you rebuild. Sell the boat and get a skateboard.

The Cylinder is ez pz to get out the unit u need to take the motor brackets off be careful!

Go to Home Depot 10 bucks get a hardened steel slender long punch drive that top pin out . Upwards and rebuild the cylinder in place as you said at the end.

First of all the easiest way would have been to remove the starboard transom bracket. I know that sounds like a lot of work but better than screwing everything else up. Really not the best engineering in the world, but this is how you earn your nuts as a marine mechanic.

I tapped mine out...the pin up top centre ram.. "PUNCH"... longe slender sucker... then remove the larger pin up top centre...GOOD LUCK

TopTime Fishing You put a jack stand under the foot and ratchet strap it , then take the side bracket off then if the top pin don't come out you drill it out and buy a new one . It's actually a fairly simple job once yo get the engine supported safely.
