I guess engine is nuclear powered. That explaines why they cannot stop (engine overheats and system shuts it down and that makes low electricity so low heat) and why engine gets hot when they stop the train for search Melanie. Also it makes nearly an eternal engine. A fuel that can last for years.

maybe i missed something, but how does the engine at the beginning of a ten-mile train keep the whole thing warm? i assume the bogie motors underneath each car generate heat for the passengers?

It doesn’t keep the whole thing warm. The back and tunnels of the train is much colder than the front. There are no/few heating ducts there. Think of it like a house, garages are often much colder than the rest of the house because it’s not efficient put the heating system down there. It wouldn’t be energy efficient to pump heat in the tunnels or in the tail. It’s why when the train split up, the pirate train was overheating, that energy couldn’t filter throughout the train.

@@Frostrider okay that makes sense. i didnt think about the pirate train in season 3, where the engine was a literal hot pocket. im assuming it generates just enough heat to keep the third class passengers warm, correct? or am i missing something?

It’s a lot easier to create instant heat (friction ex. train wheels on track) than instant cold. So Snowpiercer wouldn’t work if the world was too hot. A space station or a sea base would work best in that scenario.

Melanie Cavill is a cold, cruel, ruthless, monstrous, morally bankrupt, inhuman, despicable, reprehensible, cowardly, irredeemable, evil woman! And I have repeated fantasies of torturing her or locking her in a miserable prison for the rest of her miserable life! She kept 400 people in a windowless hell and took their arms for dissention. Maintained a dystopia and was too cowardly to even try and change it for the better, making excuses for herself the whole time! The fact that she kept the train running and saved humanity makes no difference to me! Better humanity die out if evil is the price of our continued existence for survival is infinitely insignificant next to morality! In her place I would have thrown out Wilford's rules and society as soon as departure and if that meant an existential threat to the train and humanity, then so be it! And for doing anything less, Melanie Cavill deserves not even the slightest bit of sympathy, pity or mercy. She does deserve to be punished and suffer in this life and the next!

That’s not a problem. Flexibility means the metal isn’t brittle and lasts longer. It also matter how pure the metal is. Whatever metal Snowpiercer is some sort of super composite hybrid.

In s2e10 ending, when Alex is reading Melanie's journal the camera starts with going around the room and shows a black and white picture in which Melanie holds baby Alex. She has a ring on her ring finger in that pic. I'd say it's not Mr. Wilford based on everything, and it's not Ben based on timeline. Unknown man who most likely disappeared from Alex's life when she was really young.

I think they were actually supposed to have 5 seasons. But they were starting to doubt getting that fifth, so they rushed the 3rd a little to wrap it up in four seasons. And now were not getting that either and 3rd left the ending very open.

I love the detail you put into this, but surely if Melanie is 40-50 on the show (realistically) and Alex is 16/17, that means she was in her mid to late twenties when Alex was born…Melanie also said in season 2, episode 1 she wanted to keep Alex from Wilford. So maybe it is Dubz 🫣 Ugh there’s so many questions, I guess we’ll never know unless it’s revealed in Season 4 (hoping we finally get it!) 😭

My biggest complaint with the show, even in season 2, is Laytons fucking dreadlocks. Who willingly has a stinking, disgusting and heavy af pile of hair ropes on their head? Ok, made sense season 1, but season 2 they really should have cleaned Layton up a bit, it honestly made it difficult for me to think of him as the "protagonist" of the show. They just shit me up the wall. Dreadlocks can look great when done right, but Laytons neck must have some serious muscle to carry around that load of hair.... Fuckin get it right Netflix.
