My layout has a very short logging line on it as part of the whole layout. The logging line is by no means as complex as your layout. You have mentioned and listed things that will help my logging line at least look better considering its simplicity.

Fantastic model. I too am modelling the CPR and this is a great inspiration for me. Well done.

What a presentation. A few things to note. Although the latest owner of St. Maries River RR stopped running logs from Clarkia by rail to the St. Maries mill in 2009, the track is still intact and most still exists all the way to Bovill, ID. The water tower in Eastern Washington is at Ewan. My parents went to a farm auction there in 1984. Although the track was gone, the bridge over the highway was still there and so was the water tower. And last, what a treat to see the reconstruction of the Nisqually River Bridge at McKenna. I was 6 years old at the time. We lived a couple of miles north of McKenna along this same Chehalis line near Roy. What started the entire scenario goes back to July 4 of that summer. Kids were lighting fireworks on the bridge and, of course, ignited the creosote on the deck. Roy fire dept. put the bridge fire out fairly quickly. In true Milwaukee Road fashion, the inspector said the bridge was good for continued operation. If memory serves me, the bridge survived until August when it collapsed under the copper concentrate cars. The ore poisoned the river all the way to Puget Sound and killed all the fish. The railroad bought the Roy landfill, lined it with the proper materials to avoid ground leeching, dredged the ore out of the river, and dumped it in the landfill. Then they got to pay some nice environmental penalties. I honestly don't recall the track laying dormant for 6 months, but it was definitely out of service for 2 or 3 months. Thanks for sharing.

I’m working on building a historic narrow gauge logging railroad layout located in the deep north woods. Your logging pond video is great reference on design, assembly, and result. Thanks for this great posting.

So far I’ve made about 5 turnouts in HO scale, but I haven’t placed any of them yet. It’s got me unsure as I don’t think I’ll be spiking at all and I’m not sure about pliobond. I have two of the quick sticks but I’m thinking about gluing the ties to the roadbed and then laying the turnout down on that. I’m not sure if this will work well or not. Then I’ll have to figure out how to wire the frog. I’ve used prefab turnouts with a wire already added for this frog, but we’ll see how this goes. The things that I wish more people would mention is how to actually get it added to the layout and finish it, like painting, wiring, and then adding ties where they need to go so it looks seamless.

Nice, what’s the radius Kato track used on the helix? Any thoughts on helix vs nolix?
@4DPNRMovies17 сағат бұрын
I asked Kevin your question, and he said this: "I use the Kato super-elevated double track (Kato product numbers 20-185 and 20-186). The radius of the two tracks are 18 7/8" and 17 5/8" respectively." He said that he didn't have room to do a nolix, or he would have preferred it.

I grew up in the Davis / Sacramento area but I don't recognize this crossing of the Sierra Nevada. Is the a protolance layout location. I have been an SP fan since those years in the 70's and 80's and by the mid-late 80's got hooked on the D&RGW but still a fan of the SP.

I don't believe so. I think this is a fictional crossing location.

Intetesting exchange of know how with gorgeous examples. Any wheel runs fine on code 100. How to know which one will pass on 40, 55, 70 ? It can be costly to replace a lot cause we like tiny old branchline rail size. Not to mention steamers... Thanks for the show.

This was a great session to get an introduction to what JMRI can do. Most people are overwhelmed when they first see what JMRI can do. What needs to be remembered is that only a few people in the operations group do most of the setup and the majority of the people just use the output of JMRI, primarily the manifests/switch lists, and run their trains according to those and do not get involved in setup. Thanks for this informative video.

I try to add a fiddle yard or like described "outside word to my RR. after seeing video , even though mine is a podunk style shortilne . This plan sure is much alike to what I plan ! For train running flexiability , I only need one engine with radio control or" dead rail which is more simple than DCC wireing hassles for my own situation . I was impressed with this layout thanks !

Man-O-Man, What a story! What an adventure this was for you and your 2 friends, and good friends by the way for being so keen to keep doing this over and over so many times with you and of course supportive parents to humor your passion. I love the ingenuity you guys all showed in development and overcoming obstacles during all of these outings and that you recorded all of this in pictures and movies. I loved the scenes of your friend with the black cowboy hat riding shotgun on the front of your #3 speeder. The fact that you 3 teenagers survived out in the woods alone for 2-weeks on the last trip is a testament to your fortitude in those days. Young kids today cry when they get a flat tire or run out of gas in town on a paved surface Ha ha. This is definitely a Top %1 You Tube video about adventure and a Top %.0001 For railroad historians, modelers and enthusiasts alike. Glad you saved some of the artifacts and I hope you have it in your will to donate them to a museum for everyone else to see them. @39:26 were you guys eating old K-Rations from WW2? They looked like miniature boxed Army rations for sure. Also, on the last trip you made that lasted 2-weeks, did your father meet you all at some point for a resupply of foods? ❤💯👍👍
