I think the guilt trip about the amount of black people in Boone is pretty weak. Another way to look at it is that Boone / App opened their community and campus to people of color and gave them scholarships/ housing/ formal educations /opportunities and support.

No guilt trip. Didn't say it was closed off but it's sheer numbers and looking around that make it pretty obvious. My main point was really that it could just help in that aspect of a more diverse student body.

You have sort of Nicknames for these games. Just my thoughts but Marshall vs JMU should have something to do with “Founding Fathers” Just because, Chief Justice John Marshall and President James Madison our university’s name sake lived at the same time, both James Madison signed the constitution and John Marshall ratified the constitution and are both considered Anerica’s founding fathers. So the “Founding Fathers Fight” or something.

@@jambo_jackbelly the only one we named was the ‘cat fight’ ha The others are official names or in the case of Marshall vs JMU, a name they are trying to get to stick. It’s a play on exactly what you said. The gavel is in reference to the legal process of creating the Constitution. There will be a trophy from that name sake presented at the game next season in Huntington.

@@sunbeltsyndicateI wasn’t aware. It’s kind of goofy, because James Madison wasn’t a Judge or a lawyer. A google search didn’t really say anything significant about James Madison using or own a gavel. The probably named that because gavel slightly rhythms with battle, 😂.

@@sunbeltsyndicate if you look at Marshall vs the spread they covered 9 times this year out of 10 games, which is really unbelievable. Vegas has undervalued them all season and never adjusted. However I don’t really like these last 2 road games at ODU and JMU. I can see us dropping 1 or maybe both.

Full ownership for my comment during the live stream.....McCloud played better than I expected. Last year against good defenses he was rattled and didn't play well with low completions and more picks.(ODU, APP) I thought ASU would play better defense and force more mistakes. McCloud did well getting the ball out quick and keeping throws wide so he didn't have to go through progressions much. He played well enough for them to win

The USM vs Southeastern LA was much closer than the score indicated. We (USM) looked inconsistent. Without a last minute 70 yard run from scrimmage, USM would have had only 28 points and less than 60 yards rushing. Defense looked particularly weak--both at the line and in the defensive backfield.

Here's the deal with Troy: Tulane stole the entire coaching staff, the team only has 6 returning starters from last year, new coach, and lots of freshmen. This season is going to be long and not fun.

@@boomboom418 absolutely! It’s always tough when a coaching change happens. Not to mention all the talent lost to graduation and Chris Lewis out with cancer. The culture is still there. Just need the talent and maturation of these young guys to come along fast!

What’s with you guys being so down on Marshall. We are rebuilding but we’ll still be able to play defense and run the ball. We are switching to the Air raid but I doubt we’ll be fun to watch but we are athletic and should surprise some teams.

@@jambo_jackbelly I think it’s how they finished the season coupled with weak QB play and not a clear answer there just yet. Still have playmakers in some spots but we all know QB is the most important position on the field.

Enjoyed the podcast as a USM fan got a few stats for you. Coach Ozz now head coach @ Southern Miss became pitching coach in 2018, since then we have had 13 pitchers drafted 5 in 2022 alone. Since 2016 Southern Miss is 2nd in the nation in total wins 320 trailing only Florida State. Excluding the covid year 2020 Southern Miss has had 7 consecutive seasons with 40 or more wins #1 in the nation. In 2023 we were 10th in the nation in attendance averaging 5,400 per home game no one else in the Sun Belt is close. I do agree with the coach's rankings with Coastal being #1 as Southern Miss lost the entire infield including catcher to the draft and graduation. They did bring in 3 good players from the transfer portal along with a bunch of JuCo transfers 6 of them being pitchers. Saturdays starter Billy Oldman and Sunday starter Niko Mazza return and both are preseason all Sun Belt. The pitching staff will be deep which will keep USM in games until all the new faces get up to speed. By tournament time the pitching staff should be very good to excellent. With Troy, Louisiana and Texas State all in the West with USM it's going to be battle.
