Very, very nice recommendations, Matt. It’s a shame publications like Downbeat don’t really review the kind of music you reviewed. ECM in particular has produced so much great music that falls somewhere in between jazz, classical, and folk, but you almost never hear about it.

Love ECM and found it interesting to see what your favourites are cause there were quite a few there that I haven't heard yet and will check them out. I'm now in the process of streaming all the ECM albums in Chronological order, started with the first in 1970 and I'm now up to 75 and have found quite a few new masterpieces that I really love. My Ten so far would be. 1 - Keith Jarret - Köln Concert 2 - Keith Jarret - Changeless. 3 - Chick Corea - Piano Improvisation vol 1. 4 - Chick Corea - Return To Forever. 5 - Zakir Hussain - Making Music. 6 - Shankar - Vision. 7 - Charlie Haden - Ballad of the Fallen. 8 - Art Ensemble of Chicago - Full Force. 9 - Andras Schiff - Bach: Das Wohltemperierte Clavier. 10 - Pat Metheny - First Circle.

I love Tuur, no doubt about his qualities but it's just an opinion. My opinion is that as much as I love Tuur, John Adams is better with more variety. I also like Thomas Adès. Best of all Allan Pettersson or Shostakovich. There is plenty of room for both all.

Hey there Matt! This morning YT decided to recommend me a video of yours about ECM records I remember watched many months ago. Good to see you are still creating content. It's great to hear the opinions and ideas of another jazz and music fan. If you allow me to recommend, I think it would be very interesting and fruitful if the videos had a little more production and design. I am referring to the possibility of showing the cover art digitally on the screen, maybe listen to some snippets of the music you are mentioning, separate the selected albums as chapters in the video, etc. I have a feeling that could bring great results to your channel. Best regards from South America.

@@figgymoonpowda wow you’re so right! Even without doing a direct Hartford cover, his influence came via his love of many different genres, as well as him pushing bluegrass rules (having numerous solos at once for example)

Yes! Once I changed the strings and replaced the tuners, it worked and sounded fine! I really don’t have the opportunities to use it often, but it’s sounding fine! As much as I’d love a National, I’d never use one enough to warrant the cost.

@MattScutchfield2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't use the instrument a lot - and so far not in a recorded setting, so I haven't had much need to mess with it, but yes, I am still very curious how it would sound with a high-end cone in it! Thanks for asking!

Beethoven was a revolutionary. He was dangerous then and still dangerous now to the powers that be. Thats why the playing of Beethoven is only allowed in a way that will leave the privileged citizens and the leading elites assured that a revolution will not happen.
