I think the developers need to add two more levels, level 11 would have newer class of Russian submarines, and maybe a super tanker for quick xp gain, level 12 would be a Nimitz carrier

I think there are a few important keys: 1) Single Player Games - As you grow up, you value immersion and escape over having to deal with other people. You also don't need to co-schedule with other people. 2) Structured Games - Games with a set level list, a clear beginning and end. No endless gameplay or grinding, you know that it's set up so that each 'chapter' takes an eventually-predictable amount of time, and that you will eventually be able to set thing thing down. 3) Story over Skill - As you get older you don't have time anymore to 'get gud', which is why the flood of Soulslike games has been a huge drag. Focus on games that don't stand in the way of your ability to experience, or are happy to let you tone the complexity up and down as you see fit. A big reason I like the NieR games is that they will handle everything for you short of walking from point A to point B to ensure that you feel like things are moving along within your playsession. If you look at the list posted by @DovahClone you will see that most of the entries largely fit this criteria.

Old games were the solution for me. Felt this way for years, but the solution came in the form of The Elder Scrolls: Arena. I implore anyone with this issue to try one of the following games. Ocarina of time Oblivion Halo CE Fallout Borderlands GOTY Bioshock You just might find that feeling again

I played through all the halo games last year on the master chief collection. I got the feeling on Halo 2, that was a phenomenal game back in the day, and still holds up. Halo CE was, I hate to say it, only OK. I found the graphics didn't bother me, it was more so the dated level design; you can really see the improvement in the sequel. Good advice though! I might just try oblivion

i found this game in breath of the wild, it was the same feeling that i used to have when i watched my grandpa play skyrim as a kid, the sense of exploration and not knowing even one little thing about the game or the series besides who link was and who zelda was

less and less about exploring new ideas and building new imaginative worlds, more and more reflecting some dork's ideology and self-insert therapy sessions with one main goal in mind: extract as much profit as possible from every wallet you can. in short, boomers could write stories, gen x could make them come to life. millennials haven't seemed to be able to do either at the corporate scale. and the vast majority of ones that do, take the easy payday when some conglomerate buys their ip and ruins it. thirty years ago my favorite games were dragon quest, secret of mana, metroid, and pokemon. twenty years ago my favorite games were halo, diablo 2, and metal gear solid, and final fantasy. ten years ago my favorite games were... the same games i play now: rimworld, ftl, stellaris, and other indie games made by small developers, with the occasional gem from the mostly corporate slophouses like divinity original sin 2 or monster hunter world. is it too much to ask for both, a good story, and good gameplay? investors don't care about either, as long as you keep paying for microtransactions so their bank accounts get perpetually bigger. the first time "advertisements in games" was an issue was with battlefield 2142. it came out in 2006. now, you cannot even open up a damn pause menu in destiny or diablo or battlefield or counterstrike or warcraft, without getting "incentivized" to spend cash. it's all so goddamn tiresome. then a baldurs gate 3 comes out, and it's such a fresh breath of air, just not being treated like a product for investors for five damn minutes seems like a relief. name ten games that came out in the past 4 years that are "aaa" which are just buy-and-play, no strings. THAT's why i stopped caring about 90% of this crap that gets shat out. i got factorio, and i gotta build more belts. peace.

I think you have it all figured out. I also mostly play indie games these days, finding a corporate scale game that is worth the time and doesn't make you feel like you are getting squeezed for cash is nigh impossible. Hopefully with the continued success of games like Baldur's gate (Buy it once and actually have a nice game with a good story) we get a correction in the industry as we all get fed up with the microtransactions. Or maybe there is enough people to feed the machine and we will keep getting rolled over and the slop will keep coming...

Games used to feel like adventures, like an alternate reality where I would do countless fun things. Now they feel like pixels and mechanics. I can still enjoy them, but I can't get lost in them anymore.

DEI, subscription services/paywalls and not physically owning my games. Graphics were never a big thing for me because my PCs weren't that good, and online wasn't that appealing to me (besides CS 1.6).. Stories and worlds aren't the focus anymore. It's the money money... A reflection of the money driven production is also the unavailability of owning games. Even your steam games aren't yours anymore. And if the servers for the game go down, even a single player experience goes down the drain. Nintendo did that to their customers and there are many more examples of that. You took a very nostalgic/ sentimental approach. But if you detect the underlying problems behind what makes the industry shit right now, you'll find the source of the problem as to why so many of your old friends don't want to make the effort to keep playing since playing has become so "claustrophobic" when it should be a liberating experience... Money money money dude. I feel the same 💔
@TheCatmandoom
@TheCatmandoom 16 күн бұрын
I tend to stay pretty far away from gaming "drama" and shitty AAA releases, so I kinda considered my self isolated from that crappy P2W spewing out games side of the industry, but i guess it leaches into all corners after enough time... What you say about video games being a liberating experience really hits the nail on the head as well. When I was a kid, that is what it felt like. Now it sometimes feels like that, and the rest of the time I am trying to push away the claustrophobia to find those rare liberating moments. I guess my approach was to hope it was me that was the problem and not the entire games industry... 😭

I've seen people of all ages get into games. Never got the whole "grow out of it" thing, It's just another medium of entertainment just like movies. I think the issue is games trying to appeal to everyone and being either too easy, too shallow mechanically, or just bland. I still love playing Bioshock, Half-Life, Halo, or whatever but I think the more complex games appeal to the adult brain. The thing is most don't even want to give it a try because "it's too complex" or "looks boring" but then complain how all games are the same now while only buying half baked modern AAA titles. I have many hobbies I want to pursue but I don't see why I would have to drop games to do so. Not arguing against your points but mostly the people that seem to think you only grow as a person once you stop trying to enjoy life. Revisiting games later on in life can make certain ones much more impactful too which is always a great bonus
@TheCatmandoom
@TheCatmandoom 16 күн бұрын
I think the whole point of life is enjoying it, and when you enjoy every moment that's when you grow substantially and find the most meaning in your actions! I don't think there is any age limit on games at all, the "growing" is mostly just talking about video games occupying a lesser role in your life as other things "grow" in the amount you do them, not actually growing in age. I stay away from AAA games, or any game in general that has the poor characteristics you mention, and I enjoy complex mechanics if it means I can really invest myself into a rewarding game. I think my main lament is that I cant find any game that sucks me in like it did when I was younger and i mourn that. This video is just a stab at trying to figure out why, and your comments help that, so thanks

I have been wondering about this myself.. sometimes I can get into a game again and play it a lot after or before work, but most of the time I just can’t get into it. I mostly miss people to play with, but I work different days every week and different times every day which makes that especially difficult because the time I have off that does align with most people’s schedules is spent with friends and family irl. Rambling now but I am extremely happy to have the job I have but as soon as I have some extra savings built up I am cutting down on the hours a bit.
@TheCatmandoom
@TheCatmandoom 16 күн бұрын
It's a delicate balance; overworking yourself and not being able to do things you love isn't good, but its also not that fun to just only play video games and not have anything going on in your life besides that. Cutting down hours or taking a few days to yourself when you can works wonders, good luck!

There are definitely still games that I enjoy, I just played the battlefield 1 campaign for the first time last week (I know, I'm late to it), and I enjoyed that alot. One problem I am noticing is that a lot of my old favorite games, hearthstone, WOT, ROTMG, etc, have changed so much from when i first played them, that they just aren't the same game anymore. Feature creep, P2W, and the games having 10 years of development make them all different beasts that just don't hit the same as they used to. I guess its just the struggle as you grow up to find a game that makes you feel the way you did when you were young...

So a tip with the seaplane equipped battleships: don't use the seaplanes as an offensive tool, use them as a way to block a couple of missiles. It actually works fairly reliably if you've got warning time (which if the missile ship is out of range of your guns, you do. Otherwise, just firing guns has a decent chance to block inbound missiles once you practice it.

Nice video I believe that the fletcher should have 5 guns and the zumwalt should be more powerful as a Kirov could easily take it out and a akula could also do that but stealth is it's only advantage. Also use the Kolkata as sort of a stealth ship and only use sensors when needed. The lrlap is op when combined with a oil rig and hitting ships in the middle. Also I really want to play with you but I dunno how
@TheCatmandoom
@TheCatmandoom 3 ай бұрын
5 guns would be historically accurate, and I think the zumwalt could use a few little buffs. As long as you keep away from subs its allright, if they manage to sneak up on you i think you deserve to get blown up, haha. I've had quite a few people ask to play so maybe I will make a discord in the future so we can do that. Thanks for watching!
