I liked how you kept referencing the layout graphic as you would go to different parts of the boat. I wish more “tour” videos would do that.

We did the ICW from Lake Ontario, NY to Key West. I loved your video. Great comments about being polite to bridge tenders. One question…do you also have your boat name on your dinghy or somewhere on your stern so overtaking boats can easily hail you? Most large boats were polite to us as well. I recommend stock Island Marina and also Boca Chica key ( but not on weekends!). Loved dolphins on our journey too!
@DestinationAdrift3 жыл бұрын
Hi Becky! Thanks for subscribing and for the comment! At the time of this sail, we didn’t have the name on the sugar scoops but our name did show up on AIS if other boats had that available. Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll add those to our list!
@beckyfritz60543 жыл бұрын
@@DestinationAdrift we booked Stock Island for 4 weeks, ended up staying 6. We have folding bikes on our sailboat for the trip which helped getting groceries! Key west was amazing! Tarpon basin also a great place to anchor. Make sure your anchor is secure in the keys. Sand is sometimes very hard. The only place we dragged our anchor on our entire trip😫. We were on a Catalina 350. Next time you sail try and time your overbite near Titusville to a rocket launch. Unforgettable. So amazing.

Great stuff. Waves always look smaller on film - do expect bigger waves at sea tho! We're looking at this model (Athena 38) coming from a larger mono-hull. How are you finding it, and why did you choose it? Also see you tube anchoring tips for wind against tide... Many Thanks, Paul

For sure...we’ve experienced some of those ocean waves now! 😲 We loved this boat A) because it was in our price range B) It was a manageable size for our first boat and C) the boat features like galley up, 4/2, and a blue water boat. Best of luck with your search!

Living near Albuquerque and will be also moving to Florida soon. From 7000 feet to zero feet. Very challenging to find a boat and a liveaboard marina both. In 5 years, we cast away forever.
@DestinationAdrift3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! I would suggest to focus on the boat first. Are you five years away from living on it? For us, it was pretty easy to find “liveaboard” marinas. Just a hint, usually saying you’re a “full-time cruiser” makes the dockmaster not so scared of the “L” word. Many marinas offer months long stays and others you can pay as you go. If we’re ever in the same FL area, we can help you out more! Good luck!

You're actually probably a heck of alot safer from a Covid perpective in the Bahamas than anywhere in the U.S.!!!
@DestinationAdrift4 жыл бұрын
That could be true! We know Florida is pretty bad...but...hopefully by anchoring out and only going into town for groceries will keep us safer. With Covid thrown in the mix with our first ever crossing to another country...it was just a little overwhelming. If things get better and we feel more confident, we may cross in early 2021! 👍

@DestinationAdrift4 жыл бұрын
We absolutely LOVE her! For our first boat, it’s just perfect. Very easy to sail (well, with our family of 3), and also easy to work on if you need to add things to it. There are pros and cons, for instance because it was made in France, there are a lot of things we don’t quite understand but have figured it out with the help of other Athena owners. The pros outweigh the cons for sure!
