Cool. Any tips on how to get to that styled hair? I spawn a fro and my styling skills lets say... well they suck haha any tips?
@virtuallyvisual2 күн бұрын
You talking just how to make hairstyles with several sections? For me, it helps to look at references and also think of how I can 'section' the hair when creating. So I generally have about 4 or 5 hair layers making each style. Some have dynamics, and some don't (most of the swept back part of the women's short hairstyle is not dynamic; but gets a little movement at the very bottom, controlled by the 'rest hold' value in the dynamics tab, and using the graphs in the 'modifiers' dropdown to control how it affects the roots vs tips of the hair in that section). Hopefully that helps! Or were you specifically wondering about styling an afro? lol. If so - 'New Plastic' has a super great series of tutorial videos on doing his curly hair styles! I don't think they're animated, but the styling is great!

Is this Redshift, or Cinema 4D? The title made me think this was created in Redshift, and when I asked Maxon, they said that you can't create anything in Redshift. Nice tutorial.
@virtuallyvisual10 күн бұрын
This is Cinema 4D with Redshift. Redshift is a render engine you can purchase to use INSIDE of cinema 4D. It is not a software. Cinema 4D IS a 3D creation software, and a lot of artists and studios also pay for Redshift to render out the images from the software. Think of this all like having an oven, and needing to power it. The oven is the software, and Redshift is like the electricity to power that software. It's a little more complex than that but that's one way to view it. The appeal of Redshift is that it produces images and light in a way that looks much more realistic than the built in renderer, and it's also much faster. Another popular option is Octane (also a render engine you can purchase for cinema or blender). Redshift is made by the same folks at Maxon, and they sell a bundle subscription for Cinema 4D & Redshift together, which is what I pay for. Just makes things easier that way. Hope that helps!

@@virtuallyvisual, I learned a lot of that this morning…my question of the day is whether to buy Keyshot at $99 a month, or pay for Maxon One at $99 a month. I have a ZBrush Jewelry course, but $1200 a year for Keyshot is probably out of reach for most of my students. It was nice when Pixologic offered Keyshot for ZBrush for $200 on their site. That’s why I included the section of my course, because it did a beautiful job, was cost-effective, and it was fairly easy. When I first found your video, it said that it was jewelry in Redshift (“Gorgeous Jewelry in Redshift”), so I thought you were using Redshift to model the jewelry, which is a feature I had not heard of. That was before a firestorm of research today, as I scrambled to find a reasonable alternative for my Keyshot section in the course. I think having to learn new software-in addition to the complexity of ZBrush- might send some folks over the edge. 😬 I always joke that ZBrush was the first piece of software in my life to make me cry! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain, I really appreciate it!

Kind of a bummer to see generative ai being used here, especially given how crazy simple the form actually is
@virtuallyvisualАй бұрын
AI can be used in a lot of harmful ways, certainly, but it also provides an accessible way for people to create or draw inspiration, in ways they may not have been skilled in before. Especially someone like me who’s only been doing 3D for a year and a half, there are aspects I’m still getting a handle on, like modeling. If I can utilize a tool to speed up my process, what’s the harm? I am not copying work here. I’m not even using the generated texture from the base model, or leaving the model as is. I sculpt and add quite a bit. If I had modeled the base from scratch, I could’ve achieved the same thing, yes…but it may have taken me an hour, maybe more, as it’s my most lacking skill. I think directing frustration towards the people using AI to directly claim credit for other artists work is a much better use of time personally. Or making sure that the lawmakers and people in charge are understanding the systems enough to enact solid regulations.
@warcat3dАй бұрын
@@virtuallyvisual @virtuallyvisual I completely understand your point and I used to hold a similar opinion, however (maybe this is a technicality but I feel its important) using any generative model would inherently be stealing and passing something off as your own, simply because almost every model available has been trained on unethically aquired and stolen data. The only 'creation' ability these AI models have is regurgitation of rehashed versions other artists work. I think its incredibly important, especially at this stage in the AI 'movement', that we respect our own work and other artists by not supporting the active scraping and replacing of our craft by a generative model. And a sidenote on on your modeling skills you mentioned, I think your modeling skills are more capable than you might think! Just given by the way youre able to handle such a dense mess of a mesh the AI generated, I think your general modeling skills are very solid! (also aside from the generative AI issues, I do really like the end froggy he is very cute)
@virtuallyvisualАй бұрын
@@warcat3d I appreciate your perspective, and willingness to discuss on it. I do know that a lot of text-to-image generation models actually put down noise patterns to form images; after the program has learned what certain objects are. Like, maybe it's trained what an 'arm' is off of 1,000 images, and then the computer places millions of dots over time until it resembles some amalgamation of an 'arm' + whatever other text you tell it. In that way, it can be totally unique. However, it's the ai prompts where people reference images, and obviously the companies who use images/art to train their models without consent that aren't ethical. I have a lot of qualms with the way they are made and run. But regardless, it can get pretty technical, and the whole debate can be a bit in the weeds too honestly. I respect your view on it and also your kindness on my skill level. I hope to continue to grow, and feel more confident in that way! I do think I will keep pushing myself to model so it becomes faster, but I like to also find ways like this that may be helpful to others also learning. I also want to add that I don't think AI can ever replace artists, even as it advances. There is so much talent and tangible emotion in human-made art that a computer will never replicate, try as it might. ;) haha. thanks!

Hi, lovely tutorial! a couple notes: 1. no need for a collide modifier for this to work. 2. stick slider in collide tag is not taken into consideration for particles, only the strength parameter of the stick modifier. 3. when emitting directly on the surface and with stick, it's better to keep Collision Side to "Front". With "Both" you risk some particles sticking to the inside of the mesh due to numerical inaccuracy.
