My boldest film theory is: it's interesting, although unfortunate, to look at the Psycho franchise as a sort of allegory for being gay. I naturally don't think same-sex relationships are equivalent to murder! However, midcentury American society might have done a bit ... Tony Perkins himself had many relationships with other men and was predominantly gay, but did eventually marry and have children with a woman. However, he continued to have affairs with other men, many of whom attended his funeral and consoled his wife. You might see the parallels between the actor's life and Norman's behavior, if you squint.
@woodshedreviews15 күн бұрын
Yeah that would certainly be an interesting perspective to watch the films with...
@joywagner97915 күн бұрын
I absolutely love Tony Perkins. He brings a real ... je ne sais quoi ... to his characters, especially Norman Bates. Another actor couldn't have done it, as the Vince Vaughn remake proves. (Although Freddie Highmore did a pretty good job at imitating Tony Perkins for the Bates Motel TV show.)
@woodshedreviews15 күн бұрын
Yeah the TV show was an interesting reimagining of the Psycho story, well worth a watch. Though nothing comes close to Perkins, he was perfect as Norman Bates.

Good video fellas. I had a good time with longlegs. I'd say its the creepiest movie of the year so far but the bar this year isn't set all that high.
@woodshedreviews2 ай бұрын
Glad you liked it. I was hoping for much more and that was without seeing the marketing (which I mostly avoided). There’s some nice elements in there but as a horror it fell completely flat for me I’m afraid. Thanks for watching and commenting though.

Anyone who knows me, knows how much and how long I was waiting for this film. It is good for a slow moving detective thriller, but I assure you there are no parts in this movie that are as suspenseful or dreadful as the trailers themselves. I went with four people and none of us were ever scared at any point of the movie. The trailers are misleading iMO. One of the scariest parts of the trailer is the girl seeing Longlegs at the store counter. In the movie, that scene was almost laughable. Zero dread, zero tension and it kind of made long legs less scary from that point after. So disappointed!
@woodshedreviews2 ай бұрын
@@richardhaller6537 Totally agree. The hardware store scene was such a wasted opportunity. A good performance there could have been really skin crawling but it was just dumb and funny (as in laughing at, not with). The detective elements were certainly better but just didn’t fit in over all with the (supposed) horror elements. Thanks for your comment.

Started off pretty strong in the beginning. The "hype" definitely killed it for me. The movie would've been better off with vague trailers, and creepy marketing, but blew their load when they started saying how scary it was.
@woodshedreviews2 ай бұрын
@@Nos_Reviews Indeed. In terms of scares, or even just a bit of dread I felt totally underwhelmed. I managed to avoid most of the hype to be honest but even that didn’t elevate my experience. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I hate Prometheus ....like a lot. I was looking forward to that like Phantom Menace. I'm not watching Romulus because of that film. I finally saw Covenant just last year. It sucked too. Holy crap Ridley, they were creatures that were fossilized not Albinos in suits!! Did you rewatch the 79 film? You know ...the film you directed?

Eric, you are a man after my own heart. Couldn’t have said it better myself. Nothing will ever crush like The Phantom Menace mind you. But Prometheus had a good go anyway. The Space Jockey should have remained a mystery. It has sort of tainted the original film now.
