@johnennis6837

You are correct, as the down direction is considered negative. The question asked how fast it was going - so if the answer said the speed is 24.5 m/s, that would've been better.

Would have been much more informative if you decided to choose an arbitrary theta instead of relying on a very specific "its an equilateral triangle thus they're all equal" trick which doesn't occur in most questions of this nature. But a good tutorial nonetheless

The process shown here is good! But I think a different example might be good, because the resultant is nearly the same as the total distance since the angles are so similar. In fact, because of rounding, the calculated displacement might look like it is the same as or is actually more than the distance (which would be impossible).

10 times 1 equals 10 and only 10, because you are using one number system : decimal. can NOT have two different decimal numbers have one value. x=y when x-y=0 x=1.0... y=0.9... the difference is not 0; a difference in value.

Thank you for your comment. This video shows/proves that 0.999... is equal to 9/9, which reduces to 1. The pattern with repeating decimals that consistently have one digit repeating (e.g., 0.22222...) is that they are equal to the number being repeated over 9. This extra example of 0.22222... is equivalent to 2/9. More information on how/why 0.999999... = 1 can be found through the following links: - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/0.999... - www.purplemath.com/modules/howcan1.htm

@@audracrist8451 multiplying 0.9... by 10, by adding a 9 in front of the decimal point is an error, not a proof.

Not sure how the conclusion is 141 m at 4:03 -2500 / -19.6 = 127.55 127.55 + 95 is not 141 m So correct me if I'm wrong, but uh... I don't think this video is correct For anybody else using this for hw or an assignment: the answer is correct, the process is wrong the velocity used should not be 50 m/s, it should be 30.1 m/s (which is the vertical velocity - found using 50 * sin(37 degrees)
@johnennis6837
@johnennis6837 3 жыл бұрын
Hasshi, by using the third kinematics equation, we found that the maximum height reached from the top of the cliff was 46.2 m. That was added to the height of the cliff (95 m), getting an answer of 141 m. The problem could've asked what was the maximum height above ground level - the bottom of the cliff - and it may have been clearer. John

How is there no acceleration along the "vt" vector? It's not aligned horizontally, so a component of g will be acting along that direction
@susanolszewski2424
@susanolszewski2424 3 жыл бұрын
Mikhael, This is a tricky one. But, let's start with projectile motion - we break the motion into x and y components that are independent of each other. "g" will not affect motion in the x direction, only the y. For this problem, to make the math easier, we created a coordinate system in 3 directions - the vt, 1/2 gt^2, and r directions. So, g is only affecting the motion in the 1/2 gt^2 direction. All three are independent of each other.
