This is specific to the Vocaloid 5 editor. Vocaloid has a video on the Attack and Release effects here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j2fOgXSPgLl-m80si=UwowAIHWJxeX-SfR If you have the earlier version, say, Vocaloid 4, then I believe you can find Growl in your Parameters window along with Dynamics, Pitch, etc.

how did you load the track into synth v? As in what format did you use and how did you get that format?

You can right click under the Arrangement section and choose "Create a New Instrumental Track" and then you can choose a wav file (you would think that to do it, you would go to Menu and choose Import, but that's a different thing). Or, simply drag and drop your wav file onto Synthesizer V. It will create the instrumental track for you. You can do it with an mp3 file, but Synth V will ask if you want to convert it to wav. You should always say yes because with mp3 files, the speed could be variable. Synth V will convert it to wav for you.

No, I always create my melodies by placing notes on the piano roll in Synthesizer V. I find it gives me the most flexibility in my options for note choices as I'm creating the melody.
