how did you recharge your gear? Was that solar panel suffice?
@RebootLife16 күн бұрын
Solar panel attached to a power bank was plenty in summer. In winter we would charge the power bank in Mc Donalds every few days to supplement the sun.

Awesome! What rain gaitors did you use for river crossings? And did your feet stay dry with them?
@RebootLife6 ай бұрын
Scott’s are Outdoor Research ones, mine are from Rab. Both brands are alpine goretex gaters. Fab for snow or wet/thorny bush but won’t completely seal off the top of your boots in rivers. Gives you a better chance to get across dry in shallow waters, but you better be quick.

What kind of maps did you use? any paper maps or only the cellphone?

We download offline maps to Gaia GPS in our phones. Since we have two phones that serves as redundancy/backup. Not ideal perhaps, but only practical way since we are covering so much distance.

That mountain will always have a special place in my life. I started from Borovets at the base and the actual gondolas were closed, so decided to do the full 12km climb myself. At a critical point in time I followed a summer trail into the snow using my GPS, instead of taking the winter trail which was quite easy, I ended up getting lost and stuck out in the snow at night with still an hour to go. The directions shown on my trail map and the sign posts confused me. That part of the hike took an extra two hours, where it should have been 30 minutes. I was absolutely smashed when I found the trail again and the wire. While holding on to the wire, in my exhausted state, my backpack clipped and I fell back, I had no visibility and started sliding on the edge of the mountain. I used whatever last amount of energy I had to get myself up and made it to the top. It was a near death encounter, hanging off the edge of a mountain in the middle of the night. I had a good solid drink up on my return to the Borovets lodge! :)

Hi! I'm thinking of climbing the peak in mid to late december this year and was wondering if you guys had any information on how to pick a day to climb based on weather? thanks for sharing!
@RebootLife2 жыл бұрын
Just check the weather reports and talk to the locals. Assess the situation on the day. Perhaps reach out on some local climbing/hiking groups on Facebook too. Have fun! 👍
@petersuvara2 жыл бұрын
I was advised not to climb in December and that a safer time was October, but the didn't tell me the Gondolas were closed at that time, was a fateful day that was. Even in Autumn it was a tough climb from Borovets Lodge. I think with the Gondolas it's far more doable.

Can you tell me what the brand of LED lights is that you used and where you got them from? Thanks!
@RebootLife2 жыл бұрын
Acegoo RV Boat Recessed Ceiling Light... dimmer switches that actually work with LED are hard to find, we got American Technology Components 12 Volt DC Dimmer Switch for LED, not pretty but works. All ordered from Amazon.
@sw61882 жыл бұрын
@@RebootLife Thanks, really appreciated. It's not easy finding good 12 V LED lights as it is, and as you say, finding a dimmer that will work reliably with them is even harder. You'd think with all the stuff coming out of china at the moment they'd have plenty of options but there are relatively few. Just looking at the dimmer unit online, I am seeing one with a slide potentiometer - is that what you have? If you don't like the look of it you can always transfer the control board to a nicer faceplate and swap the slider potentiometer for a rotary one with a nice knob on it.

Hey team, now watching for a second time for ideas and build style for my own project. I noticed you used a flashing type thing between the wall and the floor. Two part question, what’s the purpose for this, and what is the product called?

It is a piece of zink coated angle we got made at a sheet metal shop to firm up the frame and give us a metal edge to attach the new subfloor to after we lowered the original floor. Good luck with your build!👍
