also brood war lurkers are fucking awesome. I never watched or played much lotv but I suspect the issue with sc2 lurkers is that they gave them too much range. sc2 lurker = 10 range, brood war lurker = 6 range.

i like how wc3 does siege units. theyre generally weak units that are rarely built but they are still there to serve a purpose when needed.

Seems like it kinda has similar problems to Disruptors. In small numbers, they're easy to dodge or jump them. In higher counts, they turn into "the ground is lava". While the idea of a slow attack you can dodge seems straightforwards, and provides a distinction of outcome via micro, there's the risk of super binary outcomes, depending on how easy one is able to dodge. Something like Storm is almost always going to do some damage, and micro let's you mitigate some of it. Disruptor balls might do damage, or it can whiff completely, no middle ground. But because Protoss needs Disruptors to do splash damage, >30% hit rate still needs to be effective, so it needs to do a lot of damage. But then when Protoss gets into a position to get 80% or more Disruptor hits, annihilation ensues. I think there should be a consideration during design into how reliably one expects to do max damage out of a unit, and more middle grounds allowed instead of binary effects. Like, maybe a projectile has lower damage, but can reliably hit, then has an avoidable DOT. Or, the projectile has partial tracking, so if you're moving, the AOE will do less damage.

Around 22:00 u guys talked about how the lurker is like an aggressive seige tank. Did the MS nerf just kill the point of the unit? Also how do u beat yone and briar as khazix. Briar just heals her full hp bar and yone just oneshots me before I get close

Cars are definitely the biggest problem when you open iron vault, but you can absolutely still play this. You have to adapt the build by adding extra early towers and scouting for a possible vulcan transition but the same idea still applies.

I think its better to place 2 shroudstones on the left as you did and the other 2 just next to them on the low ground. So I have more space on the ramp and they are stupidly attacking the low stones while I can blast them with hellbornes. Great build btw. Alreday won couple of games with i.

I like how u explained the lancer to people who dont play stormgate, makes it really easy to understand. From what i got from the video, vanguard can just mass K'sante units and you cant do anything about it. But lilipadd (aoe3 GM) told me that weavers counter lancers. What do u think about this lorimbo?

I don't think the game is gonna be impossible to balance with "overpowered" unit abilities, but it might be a lot harder and debatable how fun that would be to play in an RTS.

Also I've been told it does bonus damage vs Structures for some reason, and I just am very perplexed as to why they felt that was a necessary addition to a unit that already does all these different things. Why should a skirmisher/tank also kill bases fast? Makes no sense to me.

That's because you're think of it's role in terms of unit as considered by unit archetypes and not it's role it serves in it's matchups. The Lancer is the first heavy combat unit the Vanguard get but its damage output is very low. Infernals have two extremely cheap base defenses and the Vanguard can put up base defenses extremely quickly as a response. The bonus damage vs buildings makes it possible to use lancers as a vector for early aggression (which is desirable for matchup dynamics) and makes it slightly less effective to wall them out (though still quite good if you have any kind of ranged damage).

@@benjaminbottorff2894 It can be pretty unhealthy when low tech units shred buildings. Losing buildings in the early game can be game over. Having that extra safety net before you have access to all your tools is important. Buildings are supposed to be the natural counter to melee units. So you use them as walls only for that to be turned against you.

One of the biggest problems I find with the Lancer is that it starts with 4.5MS which is already significantly higher than anything Infernal has on the ground except the Fiend. And then you get the upgrade and it gets even FASTER. The Zealot in SC is balanced by the fact that before you get the upgrade it can be kited by literally every ranged unit in the game, so it can only tank and then later the upgrade turns it into a much more versatile unit. Lancers right now feel a little busted even without the upgrade. I think nerfing it to be around the same speed as the Gaunt would do a lot to make it feel less oppressive, although even with that I feel like the passives require a bit more tuning. Also I hate how cheap the Biokinetics Lab costs, it's dumb that you can build one get the upgrade you want and then sell it with only minimal opportunity cost. Getting these sick upgrades needs to be more of a commitment.

I feel like even the top progamers have such a rudimentary sense of game design, and often know very little about the mechanics of the game.(I remember hearing that Reynor didn't even know how much damage lings do, guessing something crazy like 10 dmg) It's really refreshing to hear from someone who knows what they are talking about. Please make more of these, would be curious as to your perspective on the Hornet as well as more general concepts such as the creep camps.

Lowkey i think the strength of the infernal came from the bugs like mag stomp and such so this patch imo is a huge infernal nerf (i accept lol 60+ win rate is crazy) but idk how much was early pressure w/ goats and now that we in a way lose some anti air with mag stomp it kinda just feels opressive to play against vangards ground or air armes

I think the problem with Hornets is the general lack of (strong) AA. Air units being speciality/support is fine, but if there's nothing that kills them then they just become annoying core units.

Thats basically the order I figured out as well. The significant difference is that I take the resource creep first so that I have one more unit before clearing the speed camp. Also, taking the expansion at the top left corner instead of the natural since the enemies so far at the lower MMR don't bother to check the corners.

I managed to kill the speedcamp without losing the brute in one of my games, should i split it to gain fiends as the lack of flowers make it have very low hp & might get infested?

There are still health camps available and the shroud will restore the white HP as well. So you might want to detach it from the group and get it back once it is healed.

IvV is very similar to how TvZ has been for years. Not in playstyle, but if the Terran doesn't do damage/win early and it goes to lategame it's very Zerg favorite
