I was lucky with my driving career, I caught the end of the old era My first lorry was a TK Bedford in 1966, based in north London, my first artic was a 1958 AEC Mercury working for BRS Gloucester I did 20 years of night trunk in various vehicles Daf 85's Leyland Marathons, F10 Volvos etc I wouldn't want to be on the road now, with GPS trackers, and the boss knowing when you stop for a cuppa I loved every minute of my 47 years on the road, even roping and sheeting in the winter.

The company now prefers contractors who get paid per job and couldn't care less about customer service to avoid pension liabilities, sick pay, etc. Truly awful management with no clue

Unfortunately this job now is extremely difficult for reasons the public can't appreciate. Mind you, the difficulties a copper engineer faces are dying away now fibre is coming. They really got every last drop out of a metal conductor....Gfast 330 mbs? Man..

Thank you. That brought back memories of a Police Force. Decent cars, decent uniforms and a proper Traffic Division. Nice to see some of the vehicles used in Essex during that period. Best car, in my opinion, was the Triumph 2.5PI

Always remember a customer when we changed to the grey BT after yellow British telecom. She said Atleast with the bright yellow vans I knew to move out the way. Now you lot just appear from nowhere and give us no chance 😂. Ahh the days before data tracking and social media

Nostalgia hit seeing seeing the Corsa, Astra, Sierra and Impreza used by Humberside Police. They were one of the last forces to adopt the battenburg livery, and used the traditional red stripe and blue checkerboarding till the late 2000s. Really nice video, mate. Thank you 👍

Thanks for the upload from an ex postman. I worked during the last 'golden era' when the start times were later, there was job and finish, overtime started as soon as you finished your round, we still had our bikes and it was a 5 week day with a great pension.
