Why the hell would put that royal pain the ass 3.5L Mitsubishi in transverse? It is a major nightmare to start even normal forward install. Did you change the crank and cam sensors while your there? The way the water pump is driven is as strange as anything but hell it works. You have my sympathy. Changing the plugs and wires must be an bigger pain of joy.

they could make repair easier but its all about keeping assembling costs low- they care not about the end user

That's the truth, they could and should have made removable access covers behind the glovebox and on the HVAC air plenum, then we wouldn't have make the cuts and see the negative comments from those who make it sound so easy to remove the entire dash.

@@johnhugon8305 I see it's been a couple years since you fixed yours, I hope it's still working like it should if you still have the truck. I liked a comment on another video where the person said to turn the thermostat knob all the way to cold then have the new blend door in the closed position against the heater core, then the peg as it is indexed should go right in to the bottom of the new blend door and the actuator motor should slide right on . my son and I are going to start on his F150 soon. Thanks again for the video and explaining things so well.

@@dddddd2100 …the person said to turn the thermostat knob all the way to cold then have the new blend door in the closed position against the heater core, then the peg as it is indexed should go right in to the bottom of the new blend door and the actuator motor should slide right on ... I would say that would be correct…as long as everything is lined up. If the actuator does not side on the blend door shaft you need to find out why. I still have the truck; a lot of miles left in it…I wish I could say that with my 2017 Silverado…

So i guess on a 3.5 Kia Amanti it would be the same huh? Replacing the water pump you have to replace the timing belt too?
@johnhugon83055 жыл бұрын
I would say it’s the same engine, but check and find out. You don’t have to replace the timing belt, only remove and replace it. If it was me I would put a new one in place.
@workingtools2999 Жыл бұрын
Same engine but with the Kia amanti, you have to jack the engine to make space coz there's no space to replace that belt.
@Theezmoney Жыл бұрын
@@workingtools2999 Lol! That was 4 years ago and that car is long gone now. But I was able to take belt off and on without raising the engine. There's two belts on that car. But i do remember having to get a jack and raising the motor on a Toyota Celica years ago to take the belt off.

@@Theezmoney I got an 04 amanti from a older gentlemen just last week. Saw the 100K kilometers and jumped on it without considering its not very DIY friendly. I used to tune up and change oil my vehicles but this one is a pain to work on. Just changing the spark plugs, you have to take the exhaust manifold off for the other 3 at the back. How come you had to jack the celica, you have enough space in there.
@Theezmoney Жыл бұрын
@@workingtools2999 that's why my girlfriend got rid of the Amanti. I know i did the plugs too itt was a pain in the ass. And the Celica i just remember having to jack up the motor. Maybe it was because i was changing the water pump for a friend and couldn't get a wrench and socket on the bolts without jacking it up. It was like 30 years ago so don't remember exactly.

Good show gents! I'm about to do this endeavor, did you guys use a kia mechanic manual/book, or online PDF? How many hours did it take, and lastly any tips? I'll be doing it alone. Thanks guys! I Appreciate the video 😁

The man who did this did three remove & replace 3.5L Kia/Hyundai engine timing belts. He was a service manager at a major auto/truck franchise, not a Kia/Hyundai dealer. The first one he did was his own 3.5L Kia Van, the second was a 3.5L Hyundai I got myself in and couldn’t get out until I asked for help and he bailed me out. The third is a 3.5 Kia which is on KZbin. No manual was used, but it would help for accessory R&R. Tips: Mark the original belt and sprockets on the engine at all timing marks at top dead center and transfer all marks to the new belt (off the engine) (Put old belt on top of new belt to transfer marks).When putting the new belt on the engine, use the clamps as illustrated in the video to hold belt in place….on the timing marks. Start at the crankshaft sprocket than front bank camshafts sprocket than rear bank camshafts sprocket. Make sure the timing belt tensioner is the same as the original. After assembly turn engine over manually at crankshaft bolt slowly two revolutions and then check timing marks at all sprocket … belt marks will no longer match. If you feel any resistance when turning engine over manually stop and find out what is wrong. How many hours… The second one took 8 hrs. the third took about 5 hrs….. the first time and 8 hrs….. the second time. In my opinion it’s a very challenging job.

Thanks for the response! Looking forward to it! I will be posting my experience with it on youtube as well hopefully to help out any DIYers that are going to crack into it. =) Never done a timing belt before and I'm excited!

Did you replace the idler pulley for the timing belt? If so was there a spacer?
@johnhugon83057 жыл бұрын
The tensioner idler pulley was replaced. The original pulley did not have a spacer and none was added during reassembly. After engine was started the tensioner idler pulley adjustment did not stay in proper adjustment and engine started misfiring and set a misfire code for the rear engine bank. The engine was disassembled again and it was found out the tensioner idler pulley needed a spacer behind it to retain the interference after the proper torque to factory specs was done. It was lucky that the valves did not hit the pistons after the tensioner idler pulley moved. What was alarming the timing belt kit was OEM. The aftermarket kit had information about adding a shim if needed on reassembly.
@thecollegepicker7 жыл бұрын
Mary Hugon the tensioner pulley is the one that is hydraulic? Where does the spacer go? My kit did not come with a spacer and I desperately don't want to make this mistake, 😱. Can you elaborate? I'm already to the part where I put new belt on. Tips have been great 👍
@johnhugon83057 жыл бұрын
Sorry for not responding sooner. The tensioner in question is the Hydraulic tensioner. Make sure your new tensioner is the same thickness (where the bolt goes through) as the original. If the new tensioner is the same as the original install without a shim. When you install the new tensioner adjust tensioner to specs, tighten bolt to specs and put the adjusting tool back into the two holes in tensioner and try turning. It should not rotate when tighten to factory specs.

No worries, car is still on jack stands. Belt wasnt too bad but I busted the idler pulley (right side non adjustable pulley) bolt overtightening it. Now on the search for a new bolt 😭 What source are you guys using for factory specs if you dont have a manual book? Just googling?

Sorry again for not replying quicker. We just googled for specs.
