Wouldn't it just be cheaper and easier to carry a second battery to swap out?
@Darkc0w7 ай бұрын
I wanted to take the time to thank you for sharing this video. I am trying to add a second battery to my Yuba Supercargo but have no idea how to assemble the pieces to hold the battery. Thanks for showing all the hardware and tools required and seeing you drop the motor gave me some confidence.
@gilerd774 ай бұрын
Congrats on the upgrade. I'm getting ready to finally tackle this on my yuba spicy curry as well. I've been sitting on the pile of parts for a while. I remember reading in some instructions somewhere that it was required to have a bosch dealer hook up a laptop with diagnostic software in order to change the bike to dual battery mode, yet it appears this isn't required? I sure hope it's not required.
@Darkc0w4 ай бұрын
@@gilerd77 If you email Yuba they will tell you if the software is ready to accept a second battery or not. For me, thankfully it was ready to accept a second battery. Just like in the video, the second battery showed up right away.

Dumbest thing loctite to bearings, especially lower rear fork bearings. And show me how you PRESS THEM OUT 😂
@bikerehab Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Just curious why you think using a bearing retaining compound is a bad idea? It is designed to provide a corrosion barrier and allow easy removal in the future when warmed. Do you have a particular compound we should try in the future?
@wiciekus Жыл бұрын
@@bikerehab Yes, heating painted elements to 150+ C with often glued plastic or rubber is a very wise activity. Especially carbon, which will simply fall apart at such a temperature. If you did it with your own bike, there's no problem, but you'll be planting it on someone who will have to take it out after you at another workshop. No manufacturer practices gluing bearings to the frame. It's done with grease.
@bikerehab Жыл бұрын
@@wiciekus It's designed for the application and not as a glue which I'm sure you're already aware of. It's used if the manufacturer tech docs recommends it or if there is the need for it on a case by case basis. I agree with you that heating bike parts in general to over 150 degrees wouldn't be a good idea, but in practice when removing the compound from bearings you don't - I'm sure you've found this in the past if you've been in the trade a while. Some frames ask for grease so that is what is used in those cases - we just follow the manufacturer tech docs. We'll just have to agree to different methods and that 1000 mods hit hard. Have a good day.
@wiciekus Жыл бұрын
@@bikerehab We won't say goodbye yet. Ok, it's not glue, but your previous statements are not true. According to loctite specifications, this substance does not contain corrosion inhibitors and is resistant to temperatures up to 150. YT does not provide information on the lubricants used to mount the bearings.
@bikerehab Жыл бұрын
@@wiciekus As you say, YT doesn't provide the info so taken on a case by case basis on this job. The barrier it creates is what inhibits the corrosion, just because it's not sold as that doesn't mean it doesn't do the trick. As mentioned, the warming does not need to go to full 150c and go to liquid to help release the bond and expand the alloy bearing seat enough to allow nice removal. We've done bearing kits that we've installed in this way and removal is always clean and easy. Your choice to do things your way though buddy. Hope you get out on the bike today.

Hi, great video. Do you think this will work on a 2020 Focus Jam2
@bikerehab Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video. I don't think the Jam2 has the additional mounting holes in the frame from factory to allow a second battery installation. We'd suggest getting in contact with a Focus dealer to see if there are any add on's to allow for this, but it's unlikely. Cheers!

Hi thanks for your comment. The parts codes are in the description. The customer did supply the parts for this first install and more recently we have sourced parts. The Orbea parts need to come from an Orbea dealer but Bosch and Abus parts are more widely available.

Can this be done on any e-bike with a bosch motor system?
@bikerehab Жыл бұрын
The electric components are universal so you could add a battery to any Bosch system. The issue will be fitting the battery to the frame safely, this Orbea has factory fitted mounting points for the second battery. Hope that helps.
