How do you know if you’ve let air in after pumping the first 20 pumps ? How do you prevent this ? How do you prevent air from going in while topping off ?
@DIYNationTH

As long as the tube stays in the fluid on the bleeder side, it won't suck air back in. Keep the resivor full even it you only pump 10 times. Check and fill and repeat.

You should show the process while you are actually removing them the parts one by one ,but you are showing the removed parts after you have removed them without us being able to see how you removed them step by step , just would be better to show all the details .

VERY NICE WAY TO SIMPLIFY A VIDEO/ I LIKE THE WAY YOU WENT THROUGH EACH STEP AND USED A TOURQE WRENCH SO NOT TO OVER TIGHTEN AND STRIP OUT PLUG THREADS. HAVE SRRN MANY TIMES IN THE PAST WHERE PEOPLE HAVE RE-READED THE CYLINDER OR JUST COMPLETELY RUINED IT TO WHERE THET HAVE TO USE SOME TO TIGHTEN THE PLUG SO IT DOES'NT KEEP POPPING OUT. ULTIMATELY RUNNING ON A VALVE SHORT AT TIMES BECAUSE IT IS A NARLY FIX, IF YOU DO NOT OWN A TOURQE WRENCH AUTOZONE HAS A TOOL LOANER PROGRAM AND WILL ALSO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC FROM YOUR COMPUTER FOR FREE. ALSO TOOLS NEEDED IS HELPFUL SO I CAN GO OUTSIDE PREPARED WITH MINIMUL TOOLS SINCE I LIVE IN HOLLYWOOD LOS ANGELES AND FOOT TRAFFIC IS VERY COMMON AS WELL AS THIEVES. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. THE ONLY SUGGESTION I WOULD HAVE IS AN INSTRUMENTAL SOUNDTRACK OR NARRATE EACH SCENE FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING AND KEEPING VIEWERS LESS KNOWLEDGALE AN OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AWAY WHILE GUIDED THROUGH THE PROCESS, OTHERWISE GREAT VIDEO I THINK YOUR ON TO SOMETHING/ GOOD LUCK 12:20

Nice video, not sure if you did any research before buying 15mm. I’m only asking because I heard if you put 17 mm you can avoid trimming the end studs. I own the same car with the same wheels and this is what I have read in the forums. Only thing I’m worried about is will the tire rub on the inner fenders going with 17mm all around. Are your tires close with the 15mm?
@DIYNationTH
@DIYNationTH 10 ай бұрын
Thanks! No rubbing for me. I have a friend who put 20 mm on his, and he still had to cut his down. He has a different style of rim than I do, and I think that makes the difference.

@@DIYNationTH Thxs for the reply, your friend that put the 20mm did his tires rub? I'm thinking of going with 18mm in the rear and 15mm in the front. from what I read in the forums, with 18mm you should not have to cut the stud.

@afgpkdk He runs the 20mm spacers front and back, and He has no problems. If I had to do it all over again, I would run the 20mm vs the 15mm that's on mine. It's just a better stance overall.

I make sure the truck is level or slight incline from the front. Let it idle long enough for the thermostat to open up. Make sure the heater is on and blowing inside the cab. Keep pouring coolant in until it's level with the neck of the radiator. Fill overflow tank to full level after driving on level surface.

This is a dangerous fix to a simple problem. The little rubber cap is not strong enough to prevent unintentional venting when your can is in storage.( or in your car). I did a similar thing but used a new brass tire valve that has a screw down metal cap with a rubber seal in it.

The valve was installed for mainly ease of pouring.

Hello. I noticed this older video and I now follow your KZbin channel. I have been a BMW owner and DIY'er for many years and have owned and repaired/maintained many bimmers. Been waiting for a while and now have newly acquired E70 X5M (2012). Thx so much for your post on the PS reservoir. I bought the vehicle knowing I would need to address a power steering pump whine issue and now I'm tackling it. It steers fine and has no leaks at all but the whine is pretty loud. I have flushed the system and replaced fluid with CHF 11S and used a vacuum pump many times to make sure I got all air from system while bleeding but it's still producing air (foam) bubbles in reservoir. Bought a new reservoir because of the internal filter that could be the issue and am attempting to replace but of course it's a pain to reach the bottom hoses to get to the retaining clips on the hoses and cant find ANY help on the internet with anyone with this model (E70) who has done it. Was wondering if you might have replaced yours and could give me a little help/tips to getting the reservoir out. Thx!

Sorry my friend. I have not changed out my power steering reservoir on my X5M. Do you know if it have any small leaks in the system?
@roncollettinc.8564
@roncollettinc.8564 Жыл бұрын
No leaks in system. Just was wondering if anyone had done the reservoir replacement and found any workarounds to getting to the hose clips to release the hoses on the bottom since the bottle won’t pull up and it’s so tight to get down to it. Will try again when I’ve got more time and patience. I’m pretty sure the foaming and this the whining of the pump is the pump return line that may have a bad seal and is getting air in but not leaking yet. We will see. Thx for the response.

I think it's one of two things. A 3/8" ratchet or breakover bar that fits into a slot or I added a socket on the factory nub of the belt tensioner itself.
