Here is a dumb question. Why crack ammonia? Looking around I find VERY little need for H2. If the end goal is green energy why not simply use ammonia as a green fuel? Honestly, I've read 3 studies this week that ASSUME in all their energy and finance calculations that we want hydrogen. This objective function is never explained. For reasons of energy density, metal embrittlement, etc. I think we really want ammonia. Ammonia fuel to replace diesel, gas-fire energy plants, etc. - IF you crack ammonia you are throwing away the energy in the nitrogen hydrogen bonds and investing in equipment to do it - Then to compress/cool hydrogen to a liquid you lose 40% of the remaining energy - Finally, hydrogen boils off very very fast, the remaining energy disappears in days or weeks... There are some industrial uses for hydrogen but that's not really what we are talking about right? The mission is 18% of global energy demand.

Полностью с Вами согласен. Японцы используют смеси аммиака с угольной пылью для нагрева котлов и получения пара.

is there not a green way to produce and convert ammonia to hydrogen and back don't bacteria or plants do it ?
@X_bo420x
@X_bo420x Жыл бұрын
Yes but bacterial turns N2 from the air to NH3 or NH4, which then it or other bacteria turn that NH3 or NH4+ into NO2- or NO3- and H2O. Now NO2- and NO3- can both take a H and make NO2H and NO3H with H2O as a by product. But the issue is we want H2 as a fuel source to burn. And for that we need to separate the H atoms from H2O (bring us back to step 1) or from NO2H or NO3H, which no natural reaction that we know of those. So we can’t use bacteria or enzymes to make NH3 into N2 and H2 for a fuel. Best we can do is use them to make N2 and H2O into NH3. But you would need a lot of bacteria for that which will do the reaction slower than electricity. So using electricity and a galvic cell reaction to make NH3 from N2 (air) and H2O is better, faster, and cheaper than using bacteria, but a bit dirty in regards to CO2 production

Unfortunately plant-based hydrogen productions (dark or photochemically processes through the use of bacteria) are less efficient than cracking. Still, they are much less energy-consuming than Haber-Bosch (N2+H2->NH3) and ammonia cracking (NH3->H2+N2) processes combined.

After the war with Russia Ukraine will be in a better position to rebuild itself with Russia paying 1.3 trillion dollars for loss of GDP for 8 years plus 60 percent of GDP this year. Ukraine has mineral wealth of over 12.5 trillion dollars enough for 200 years of modern life. Ukraine needs 21 million tonnes of coke to produce 35 million tonnes of steel per year so the coal basin of Donbas will be very important industry area and opening 70 new coal mines on top of 110 existing mines and producing 200 million tonnes of coal of which 130 million tonnes will be used for coal to liquids plants to produce sulphur free fuels so no need to import oil or coal .

When having for example tomatoes using HPP: why isn't the cell wall damaged? Why isn't it slurry after the process with such high pressure?
@sophiaschier-hanson4163
@sophiaschier-hanson4163 Жыл бұрын
Because the pressure is EQUAL on all sides and cells are generally equally flexible on all sides. Things only squish or break under pressure that is equal all sides if they are more compressible / brittle in some places/ directions than others. :)

ohh my god , a good things from memory i was be there , in 03.00 Mr.Ali "Father" explain to uhde staff the procedure and preparation for safe heavy lifting C3 splitter , The biggest problem faced by Uhde team was to install this giant tower on the many anchor bolts, so my father’s idea was make a reducer welded above bolts , he works as a guide just to enter one of the holes, followed by the entry of the rest of the bolts into the rest of the holes, and this idea was recorded in Uhde GmbH , Full respect .
