Will be interesting to learn, how this boat could be beaten on both legs of the mini transat by competitors without foils.

I've bought this "piece of engineering" two months ago. At the beginning it worked smoothly and one day, while furling the grennaker, it just stopped spinning. So, it came clear that all the parts of this "piece of engineering" are kept together by threads. Every part of it, that is used to furl your sail, is fixed to the other part by a thread. And the funny thing is that these threads are not fixed (not to unwind), so if a bigger tension is put to them (as the sails like to do), they would more likely wind or unwind, than to furl your sail. I wrote to Karver and received their apologies in return, but not their agreement, that it's not fair to sell such a thing. So now, I know this is "a piece of .... something" , but surely not a "piece of engineering" :)

The first question that comes to my mind is can the NKE pilot steer fast enough to keep the boat optimally on the foils? The obvious answer would be, "Yes" because otherwise the added weight and drag would not be worth it.

Nice! But how does it unlock?
@KarverSystems
@KarverSystems 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bram, you lock and unlock with the halyard. There is a on/off system inside the lock. That is important to unlock with not too much load (except the weight of the sail). Because the fixed point is at the top, you get the load or release the load with the tack line. That is why our client usually install a 3:1 friction sheave at the bottom to get 3 times more power.

no need to use winch at all , trimmer stand next to the leeward winch, with lazy sheet on left hand , quickly take leeward sheet off, then immediately start pulling the windward sheet. you should be able to pull in windward sheet before it takes on load

Why don't Karver combine the high speed of KSW (karver speed winch) and very high power of KPW (karver power winch) into a single winch? Yes, Karver has KCW (karver compact winch) but it does not have the power of KPW 150 or high speed of KSW 52. If I want to install new winches on my boat I need to buy 2 different models - KSW and KPW (maybe even three models if we include KCW for reefing lines).
@KarverSystems
@KarverSystems 3 жыл бұрын
Each Karver winch always includes 2 standard speeds. If you actually use a size 40 and if you buy a KSW40, 2 of the 4 speeds will be exactly the same. You have to decide if it's useful for you to get the 2 additional speeds dedicated to the speed (KSW) or to the power (KPW). It is not a formal rule, but cruisers usually choose the KPW to get 3 times less physical effort and racers choose the KSW to tack/gybe/hoist 6 times faster. Combining all the speed means 6 speeds on a winch which is actually impossible but also not useful.

@@KarverSystems excellent presentation, but perhaps you should explain that from the outset. I am sincerely looking to change from electric to manual, apart from furling lines as a single hander on a large vessel.

D'accord ! C'est donc cet instrument qui a posé problème à Amédéo cette semaine... Et vu que cette pièce est un ensemble, savez vous sur quelle partie avait eu lieu la fissure ? Au passage, excellente vidéo explicative ! 😁

@delarminattanguy4984 4 жыл бұрын

Simple is better :) But, how do I trim luff tension?
@KarverSystems
@KarverSystems 4 жыл бұрын
Using a lock means you will have to get the tension from the bottom. With no lock, you tension at the halyard point. With a lock, you tension at the tack point.

Hello. I just surveyed a Saona 47 equipped with the same gaff lock. It turns out that the main head never slides back to reach the hook. Upper track car needs to be maintained down with the down halyard. What was I doing wrong ? Or is it the way it is meant to be ? would love your input if possible ? I have a smaller 22 footer that I'm trying to rig with a continuous furler. I'm interested in the Marlow pro-drive torsion cable. Does it have to be 2 strands stitched together or can I just run a single strand, which would be plenty stout enough (I think)?
