Sure the singing and the dancing is very powerful but with a totem espacially. Indigenous canaanites and hebrews used to do totems as well but monotheism doesn't tolerate anything but kept the animals of the tribes and the bible speak a lot about poles and totem trees called ashera.

You forgot to mention the Cascadia Subduction that almost made the Haida extinct in 1700. Those peoples had the same savage reputation as Vikings...

I was messing about with my steam profile and wanted to go as far north (for a steam profile location badge) through Canada and it got me here. This is quite the first peek into what goes on there. I hope life is well for them, bless their hardy hearts. Best wishes from Lithuania

From wikipedia (you can find the sources there): "Epidemics of whooping cough, influenza and smallpox ran through the community periodically. In 1918, Moravian missionaries brought an outbreak of Spanish influenza that devastated Hebron and Okak. Approximately 86 of Hebron's 100 residents died. The flu epidemic of 1918 was believed to have wiped out a third of the 1,200-member Inuit population of Labrador." So like.. it sucks and all that this shit happened, but contact would have to happen eventually, and it wouldn't be until much later that an effective understanding of antivirals would occur, so the people at the time can't be blamed. What would be the alternative to relocating them to more developed areas after such an event? Leave them underpopulated, under resourced, and out of then modern society?

Haida is a language isolate. That means that it has known connection to any other language on earth. Little over 20 fluent speakers remain, but efforts have been made to preserve and revive the language, many of which have been thankfully successful for the most part. It’s a very beautiful and interesting language, and my heart goes out to the Haida people!

Well, many stolen totem poles wich were located in abandonned villages are in museum now...but what if they remained in place like those seen at 3.11 ? Quite a paradox, they could'nt be reclaimed nor saying something on Haida people if they werent conserved at first. If the purpose is to convey a message to a broader audience in order to bring attention may be they should remain in museums next to large city.

Many corrupted indigenous communities have spoiled the earth as much as the european newcomers have done. Piety means presenting yourself with a honest look, not necessarily an unbelievable pityful one.

And they predate any known natives as they could not get to the Island. It's pretty cool. Beotuks were there as they left Labrador in the 1500s due to being pushed out.

The maritime, archaic Inuit pre-dated the Vikings by thousands of years. In fact, at Lanse aux Meadows, there are firepits that predate the Vikings by hundreds, if not a thousand years. Many artifacts found at Port aux Choix, again predating the vikings by at least a thousand years. The vikings encountered these natives and called them "Skraelings".
