Honestly i don't understand how various people actually like this movie. I know that talks about hard themes, but it does it really bad and i think it could be offensive to the people who have suffered from bullying and people who commited sui*ide. I know that it's not intentional, but it's very bad for me. I think that the dear Evan Hansen Movie talks More or less about the same theme, but very much better. Obviously this is just my opinion,but i would like to know why you all liked it.
@albertog10x5 күн бұрын
Hello, first of all, thank you for sharing your honest thoughts. All opinions are welcomed. I would like to know which where the parts or themes in the movie that you found could be offensive? I watched the majority of the film version of Dear Evan Hansen and I did not like it very much. The musical aspect really took away from the seriousness of the topics for me. It also was difficult to relate to and I struggled to watch until the very end. I have experienced bullying and have struggled with depression and sui***al thoughts myself and found this movie to be much more realistic and relatable. I am not in the autism spectrum but I could empathize a lot with Ben, so much that making this review was a bit tough emotionally. I have not rewatched it in a while but I do remember it being a solid film.

@@albertog10x Thank you for sharing your perspective and for explaining why the movie resonated with you on such a personal level. I appreciate the honesty and the bravery. But now I explain why I personally found certain aspects problematic and, a bit, offensive. First of all, the scene where the protagonist pretends to commit su**ide struck me as deeply unsettling. At the beginning, the movie makes you believe that he committed su**ide, only to reveal that it was a staged act. Then, at the funeral, when everyone thinks he is dead, he reappears as if to say, "Don’t worry, It was just a joke," and suddenly, everyone stops bullying him. To me, this felt unrealistic and trivialized the gravity of both su**ide and bullying. In real life, these issues are far more complex and rarely have such a convenient resolution. Additionally, I found it troubling that his mother approves the idea of faking his su**ide. I understand that the movie likely intended to show a desperate attempt to stop the bullying, but it came across to me as irresponsible. The way the movie initially presents his "death" in a documentary style felt like it was mocking the audience, which I found uncomfortable given the seriousness of the subject matter. Another aspect is the fact that At the end of the movie, it becomes clear that the girl was a hallucination, yet the movie treats her presence as something positive, even encouraging. I found this unsettling because it felt like the protagonist was abandoning a real opportunity for connection with a girl who maybe genuinely wanted to know him, choosing instead to cling to an idealized version in his mind. While I understand that this could reflect themes of schizophrenia or deep emotional struggles, I also don’t like the fact that his mother sees it like something normal, instead of helping him with this condition. Finally, the overall tone of the movie seemed to suggest that these extreme actions and choices were justified or even celebrated. I realize that some level of exaggeration is to be expected in movies, but in this case, I felt like it crossed a line, especially since the movie presents itself as a serious exploration of hard themes. For me, for me the first half of the movie could also be interesting, but in the second half, from the train station scene onward, felt increasingly disconnected from reality and undermined the impact of the first half. Of course, I understand that this is just my perspective, and I completely respect your experience with the film. I’d like to hear more about how you interpreted those moments, maybe I missed something that would change the way I see it.
@albertog10x4 күн бұрын
From what I can gather, this is just one of those things that are unique to each individual's experiences and emotions. I don't think you missed anything. Thank you so much for elaborating! I think what justifies a lot of the actions of the protagonist is that he was not neurotypical. The bullying that he experienced affected him in a very different way and just like you mentioned, this went beyond the autism spectrum and covered other themes such as schizophrenia. There is a movie called "Marrownone" which is more of a thriller/drama I would say, *spoiler's ahead* but it deals with the lead character who is ostensibly neurotypical. His mother passes away and he is left to care for his 3 siblings. When his siblings are murdered he tries to take his own life but starts "seeing" and "talking" to his deceased siblings. We don't know that until the end of the film but his brain essentially created these hallucinations to keep him alive. He can take his medications and not see them but obviously it makes him unhappy so his caretaker never gives them to him. Similar to that, the character in "Ben X" is supported in his plan by his mother because she does not want to see him suffer. I do agree that it might not be the best way to "teach" people a lesson but most of those people were his tormentors anyway. Then his hallucinations with his love interest also provide a safe haven to him. Could he had actually developed a relationship with the girl in real life if he would've been treated? Maybe, maybe not. But I feel once he was in such a deep hole, his only respite was his imagination. It would be incredibly difficult for me to deprive a loved one of their moments of happiness just to keep them conscious and aware in this world. This is also just my opinion though but I really appreciate learning about other's experiences and what they would prefer to have seen in certain stories.
@lorechinni21413 күн бұрын
I admit that I hadn’t considered some of the points you brought up, and I can see now how the story might resonate differently depending on personal experiences. I still would have preferred if the story had developed in a different direction, but i admit that this has been a really interesting opinion exchange, thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It’s always great to hear different perspective.

What seems like the perfect "solution" during a low time, can seem like a terrible idea when things get better. But they can only get better if you give yourself that chance. Life is highs and lows and in betweens... if we can accept that. We can live in peace. 🙂

For me I think that Dominick is just bisexual but he just thinks he's gay He was like oh no I'm totally gay because that girl from the Opera (Olivia) wasn't his type but it was different with Sylwia because she was what he likes And for his relationship with Alex I think that Alex is secretly attracted to him but since their society is homophobic he tries to hide and I'm saying this because he agreed to kiss him in the prom if he hates him he wouldn't. also I think that Alex gave the that kind of "love hate" love language cause he acts mean with people he's attracted to Idk it's still my theory

Im late, I know! But I do remember not caring much for Tomek. He was a sociopath and manipulated everyone in the movie. And he still got what he wanted at the end! The thing that made me really not like him was the comment he made about Dominik. Saying that Beata already messed up her first child, and that she shouldn’t rat him out because then her second child would be messed up as well. It made me sick since what happened with Dominik wasn’t entirely her fault, more so his own emotions and Sylwia.
@albertog10x5 ай бұрын
Hmm, I do understand what you mean. I do think people are responsible for their own actions but Beata did have so much to do with it. Her and her husband could have done much more for Dominik but Tomek was just saying that, like you mentioned, because he was a sociopath who didn't really care about anyone.
