Such a shame they pulled down the stock exchange building.

This footage was uploaded in 2012, everybody in the comments says this timestamp isnt correct and its now 2022, why has the owner of this video not justified or change the title?

They shouldn't have demolished the Stock Exchange, an important part of Dunedin's history

It must have been earlier than 1960. It was the good old days I remember the building in the city when I was young and used to live in dunedin a good old video

Can anyone get me a sreenshot of the Thunderbird gin ad from the 80s? The one that had blatant subliminal images of skulls and a penis? It appeared in the Auckland star or Herald. I don't really expect any response but.... you never know.

Charlie Chaplin's City Lights is playing at the cinema, it came out in 1931. I'd say this footage is mid-30s.

I think it took a long time for films to get here....30 years was pretty quick back then :)

It's definitely not the 1960s. Tram cars were not going along the main street of Dunedin by that decade.
@richardvoogd7057 ай бұрын
@stevekinney7423 that's what I was thinking. I don't remember seeing trams on a visit in the 1960s, and the vehicles looked old.

0:46 The Rover 75 (seen here, driving through the exchange) first appeared in late 1949, so this part of the video, at least, is no earlier than the early 50s.

As Bradley Knewstub & Peter Clement state, this film is older than 1960! I used to ride up Rattray Street in the old tram, to school in 1956, and that tram was the last one running in Dunedin at the time...
@bradleyknewstubb93829 жыл бұрын
This film was made before 1949 as there were no trams in the Octagon after 1950

Have been able to date it better. Definitely NOT 1960s; but 1951;. no trams were operating in Dunedin in the 1960s. The film screening at the Octagon, "City Lights", was re-issued in New Zealand from 18 May 1951.
