How did your season go this year? I bought the dauntless this year with the divided pan, float box and forced draft kit. 55 taps and made just shy of 15 gallons. Looking at building a sugar shack for next season.

It's been a good season after a terrible one last year. I have 30 taps and made a little under 7 gallons. I do not have a float box. I've been manually adjusting flow from my tank to feed pan to divided pan. A float box wood be a nice addition and increase efficiency.

Hey, I just got one of these here in VT too. Can't be sure from the video, but it looks like you have two 45 degree bends in your stack with a stainless chimney and cap. Has there been any issue at all with the draw? And does it ever throw sparks? I have the same size shed, but it has a shake roof. I don't want to build anything else, but I keep thinking about sparks. Would much appreciate your experience with the dauntless! Thanks.

PS: What are the dimensions of your cupola? Do you think its clearing steam well enough? Thanks!

Congratulations, nice setup. I haven’t sugared for a long time and was going to start again next year w 10 taps and a 55 gal barrel set up, then move to 15-20 taps in year 2 and then get something like the Dauntless in yr 3 with 50 -100 taps. I’m also in VT . Thanks for sharing and here’s to a better season next year.

Thanks for taking the time to show off your new Sugar Shack. Very nice build, looking forward to seeing how you grow. How many taps did you have this year? How much sap did you collect and what was the final tally for Maple syrup produced?

Thanks for inquiring. I don't plan on expanding, happy with the small set up I have. I had 30 taps this year, all buckets, up from 18 in the past 3 years. Unfortunately in Vermont this was an off year. Most big producers only made about half their normal crop. If you didn't have pumps things were tough. The sugar content was very low. It took me about 70 gallons of sap to make a gallon. I gathered approx 300+ gallons of sap and made a little over 4 gallons of syrup. In the past I've made 6+ gallons on 18 taps. I'm hoping for a better, more productive year in 2022. The "Dauntless" worked great. Love it and I am pleased with how my set up worked. Now onto my summer vegetable garden. Might be a few weeks, it snowed yesterday. Thanks again!

I just ordered a Dauntless, with divided pan. I'm super excited about. How did yours do this season? What was your gallons per hour? Anything I should know about operating other than the stuff they tell you?

I'm still gathering and boiling. I've been boiling about 10-12 gallons per hour. Sugar content is low this year so it's taking about 60-65 gallons of sap to make a gallon of syrup. Operating is easy, a slow trickle coming in to keep your level at 2" is easy. Just feed wood, keeping a good boil going. Shipping was prompt and assembly was kind of fun and gratifying you know how it's all put together. Just watch the video on assembly. Thank you to Smoky Lake for putting out these videos. Good Luck!
