Qor uses the binder aquazol, with is proprietary to them

I wondered about that! I’m fairly new to QOR but I’m really liking it so far. That doesn’t surprise me though because I adore their acrylics!

I wonder if you used the wrong paint from your palette, thinking it was your Rose of Ultramarine. I've never seen it dry down that red.
@dmoseley672 күн бұрын
Thank you for that! I hadn’t considered that and now I will have to go find out. It’s clearly a very different outcome so your suggestion totally tracks.

@jennymarko2196 you were SPOT ON CORRECT my friend. I grabbed Quinacridone Violet instead of Rose of Ultramarine. Thank you for the catch! You’re a lifesaver because now I can go forward with my next project with Rose of Ultramarine with the confidence it will look right. I’m working on a negative space piece for Valentines. Stay tuned!

Golden’s Green Gold is a mixture, but QoR and most other Green Golds are a single pigment. Golden should have named it Azo Green

Ooooh! I didn’t look and know that. Good tip. Thanks for sharing!

where did you get the pattern for the color swatching?
@dmoseley674 күн бұрын
It’s a stencil from Tim Holtz made by Stampers Anonymous. I show it in the earlier color studies too.

I get bored doing charts for myself, but I love seeing the end results. They look beautiful, and are so very useful. You could sell these! p.s. The Windsor Blue looks flat compared to the others. Is that because it's highly pigmented or because the others are granulated?
@dmoseley675 күн бұрын
That’s a great question about the Windsor Blue! I love how saturated it is but you’re right, it’s very flat. I think it’s compared to the granulation in the others. But maybe it’s a bit of both - super saturation and compared to granulating. I was thinking about scanning these and putting them where people could download them, so thank you for that suggestion!

This was beautiful and very useful. Thank you. Would love to see it all the way dry in daylight, too. 😊 Have you tried the GRIPR paint tube cap remover tool by Golden? Its not perfect but it's a huge help and only a couple of dollars. Paint in caps is the bane of my existence. 😅 I keep a tall trashcan and strong spray bottle on hand and squirt the tops out over the can and a dab on a towel. Its the easiest, fastest way I've found. Of course, if they don't seal well, they'll end up that way anyway. Only tips I know are to give it some taps all around where the cap connects and threads to help break it up (heavy taps but not too hard or the plastic will warp). Soaking the cap in some not too hot water might work if that doesn't. Good luck removing it.

Been ‘watching ‘ your swatching while organizing my craft room 😮😂… and happened to hear your struggles with potter’s pink. I have heard recently that it is used by folks to mix with reds in order to transform them into granulating reds with little change to the red colours (very few red pigment are naturally granulating. I have Schminke Volcano red, which does granulate, but , oh my, you have to work at it to get an appreciable load of pigment. I’ve promised myself a swatching period once this room is organized enough to feel comfortable/not twitchy in it…starting 2025 in a good way 🤭🥳🤣)

You have identified my favorite thing to do - “watch” someone while I work on cleaning up my space! Thank you for the tip about potters pink! I wanted to love that color but now I will have to play with that and some reds I have to check out the granulating red idea! You’ve given me an idea for another video now - potters pink PLUS… (fill in the blank). A twitchy room is never good - hope you’re making good progress. It’s a satisfying feeling for sure!

I LOVE all the colors too!! I’m a sucker for those blues though. I’m enjoy your color studies and your stories. I never heard of people going around cleaning garbage cans (fantastic idea though) and the explanation of how the hue was different from a regular watercolor very informative to a complete beginner. Thanks for sharing!

Lovely colour mixing study. I always enjoy some quiet swatching too. That template looks really good for this job. Thanks, Dawn!
