Kira: Yea, Damar. What kind of people give those orders? <Damar storms off> Kira: That was stupid of me Garak: Not at all. Damar has a certain romanticism about the past. He could use a dose of cold water. If he is the man to lead a new Cardassia, if he's the man we all hope him to be... then the pain of this news made him MORE receptive of what you said, not less. Though IMO, that was definitely more a Kira moment than a Garak moment.

What I've done to such accoustic basses, is buy a set of flatwound strings, which is not exactly cheap. But the bass will sound very different and I like the feel of flatwounds. And often it is a very good idea to carefully remove the frets and glue in strips of hard wood. When you finish that nicely, which is a big deal, you get yourself a nice and still cheap fretless bass. And for those cheap basses, buy a new nut and that plastic thing in the bridge, is it called saddle? If you are not afraid of wood glue and clamps, get yourself a great bridge. Making things yourself out of copper or brass is always an option. Ever experimented with nut and bridge material? Metal looks great. Antlers are great. Bone is very good. Most of all, it is fun, trying things. You can always buy plastic, why not? And last thing to think about. When I buy such a thing secondhand, I always remove that preamp. It has weight in a spot where I want no weight. Such preamp guitars feel like they want to escape. They want to flip from your lap. I do not like preamps. Extra problem is the cheap ones all have that cable buzzing somewhere. Try finding the culprit. Piezo pickups can be great, finding sweet spots for two piezo's under the top is amazing. Where you glue it does make a huge difference. If you find a warm sound spot and the other one closer to the bridge, then you can mix three piezo's. Bridge and two glued to the top. Three pots, that's all. Dump that preamp, or install a better one. But who am I?

Dr. Julian Bashir : Is there anything you need me to do while you're gone? Elim Garak : Like what? Dr. Julian Bashir : I don't know. Any unfinished business? Elim Garak : Actually, Doctor, there is something. Dr. Julian Bashir : What? Elim Garak : If you go into my quarters and examine the bulkhead next to the replicator, you'll notice there's a false panel. Behind that panel is a compartment containing an isolinear rod. If I'm not back within 78 hours, I want you to take that rod... and eat it. Dr. Julian Bashir : Eat it? Elim Garak : [affirmatively] Mm. Dr. Julian Bashir : You're joking. Elim Garak : Yes doctor, I am.

First thing i do is set it up how i like it. Check for straight, feel fret ends and tweek, check saddle hight and tweek, check frets by feelometer, using a fine wet and dry sandpaper knock the gloss off of back of thè neck until you have a dry satin feel. Lightly oil and check for feel repeat until you like it. It is well worth while learning how to do a setup cos you end up with a custom feel on your guitar like the pros. Cool vìdeo

Excellent points! I will be conditioning the fretboard and doing a few other tweaks to it soon. I was actually surprised how little setup (at least for me!) this guitar needed right out of the box, especially at this price point. If I may ask, what grit sandpaper would you recommend to knock down a bit of the neck finish? I used to have some 2000-8000 grit when I was doing lathe woodworking, and I imagine that fine would be good for the last round of knockdown? Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Yes, and checking the braces inside the body is always a good idea. Just feel if everything is glued okay. For secondhand, this one is really important, some basses are damaged, the fix is easy, and you get rid of buzzing sounds. Planing the top inside, to get better tone and response is not for beginners. Only when you know what you are doing, you can tweak such a cheap bass. This is difficult because the force on four strings can break the bass, it must be strong. Believe me, you do not want a bridge breaking from the top when you are playing. It hurts. And that was just my 8 string guitar.

"You'd shoot a man in the back?" "Well, it's the safest way, isn't it?" It's like a line out of a Western. Out in the frontier, there's so much scarcity and lawlessness that Federation ethics don't hold as much sway. I love how DS9 was able to blend other genres into the Trek formula.

As a beginner, please explain how an EQ controller doubles as a tuner. Thanks.
@GenomePresents28 күн бұрын
The tuner itself is built-in to the EQ assembly. There is a small LCD window that shows your tunings (when you turn it on that is). Hope that makes sense.

Bummer to hear that your bridge arrived broken though; that is really weird! One of these days, I need to upgrade to those tuner knobs to "complete" the look a bit more.

I have the same guitar which I paid $225 second hand but had a super nice strap and gig bag. I like it. The biggest problem is the cheap electronics. The pickups don't sound bad but they don't sound great. The output jack is failing/sound drops out when the cord plug moves and switch is crappy, I plan on putting a new harness and pickups in and maybe a roller bridge.

I love how every time someone is like "I probably shouldn't trust you" Garak just straight up "Well, well, well. Someone's learning. You may just survive after all." And yet, oddly, in the entire series.. Garak and Quark seem to be two of the more.. trustworthy characters. Yes, they're involved with all sorts of underhanded despicable shit, but.. they have morals. It's not like Dark Lord of Middle Earth where Sauron is just a force of evil with no nuance whatsoever. Rings of Power actually did him some justice by going all Milton's Sauron about it.

It's a shame Andrew Robinson is generally remembered more for Dirty Harry than DS9, he gave a magnificent performance in this show. Objectively Garak is a horrible person, but he's so likable and so effective when he's on our side that you don't want him to get what he deserves.

The craziest thing is that Andrew Robinson was originally seriously considered for the role of Odo of all people, according to some sources supposedly almost ending up being cast in the role. While the role of Odo eventually went Rene Auberjoines, producers wanted to keep Robinson on the show in some capacity and created a brand new character just for him. The character eventually evolved into Elim Garak.
@miroslavtomic70382 ай бұрын
Not to mention that animosity and rivalry between Garak and Odo eventually became arguably the second best ongoing storyline of the entire series. Second only, of course, to rivalry between Odo and Quark.
