I absolutely love the gay / aroace icon that is Sherlock Holmes. Whether or not you ship him and Watson romantically or in any other way, he does care for his best friend a lot more than what would be considered "normal"; and as an aromantic, despite the fact that I may not want a QPR myself nor a romantic relationship, I know other aspecs that have them or want them and it's basically the "that's my person/people (non-romantic)" and like other kinds of committed relationships nothing can change that, unless certain things have already been agreed upon within said relationship - and I can understand that because that is how I view some of the people within my life despite it not being queer-platonic.

I love the way Holmes chokes on the drink and how his voice cracks over “surely there are other men?!” 😅 GET MY MAN OUT OF THERE, LOL. I like how the moment he realizes a dad isn’t actively missing he immediately gives the man a side eye and grimace, probably wondering where the hell this is about to go. I find the Tchaikovsky thing highly amusing, and the various famous people they went to. Sherlock is probably thinking “god, please don’t let this lead to me xD” I am wondering HOW this movie got made in the 70’s holy moly. Sherlock’s smile after he says “Tchaikovsky is not an isolated case” is the very definition of :3

I dont get why people convince for this version Holmes was gay. Because Holmes just use Watson for excuse from this conversation. Holmes found the love of his life in this story and she was dead. This like a gay joke.

When I heard "It is heavily implied that Sherlock is gay in Private Life of Sherlock Holmes", I didn't think that he would just straight up say "I'M IN LOVE WITH WATSON, AND I'M JUST AS GAY AS TCHAIKOVSKY" Also for me, as a Russian person, is such a delight to hear thus excellent Russian speech. Hollywood could never.

It's not really clear whether he's telling the truth or not. The movie leaves Holmes as something of an enigma.

Ehh.. you'd have to watch the movie. Sherlock kind of just makes this up to get out of this situation, and Watson gets REALLY upset over it because it's a lie that could hurt his career. They're not really meant to be gay, but they definitely do act like an old married couple throughout the movie. But, then, one can't stop anyone else from interpreting things as they like ;)

@@Romance_dream_ the grace of fiction is that, if it has not been explained in the smallest detail so as not to leave anyone in doubt, then everyone can interpret it as see fit. So, there is no "more correct here", it's just a matter of interpretation of the scene. You see it as a funny ruse for comic relief. The other person as a true and obvious confession of love. There is no problem for me to see it that way. The most important thing is to respect the opinion of others without prejudice, even if this opinion is not in line with yours.

Brilliant scene! I think a lot of people are missing the point. Sherlock is asexual but can't find a polite way to turn the lady down so he does some quick thinking. I REALLY have to watch the movie now though, it looks hilarious!
@imogenbooth60613 жыл бұрын
I don't think they are missing the point by assuming Sherlock is gay in this interpretation and if you take the word of god (i.e the director) then Sherlock IS gay in this film. As it is, however, it's clear that Sherlock is very much Not Straight and whether it be he is asexual or gay is down to personal preference and besides one can be asexual and still possess romantic attraction for the same sex.
