beautiful software, just a little expensive! but very nice graphics and full of features. I still have some problems using remote overlan with my 705, lag and signal loss, things that do not happen to me with wfview on server and sdr control on iphone!
@SimplyOffGridLifeКүн бұрын
I did try wfview, but not complete. The only area I currently notice of lag, is when I enable scan from the app, instead of the radio. The lag is noticable when you are in the same room or close enough. Once out of sight, that lag becomes normal. It the same with ham radio repeaters that are linked to several other repeaters. Even with DStasr links the lag is there too. So far not an issue for me, but I can imagine when you are remote and the internet is slow. Still trying to decide which way to go with hotspot device. OpenSpot Pro 4 or uv1-aj mmdvm rfinder. Try to get info on the uv1-aj but couldn't find it online. Not sure how often I would use it. Terminal mode seem to be enough most of the time. SDR-Control still need refining and when buying all three, it expensive. While nice on the iphone and ipad, I still prefer to use it on the mac computer. I don't notice any lag there, so far. Never tried wfview on an iphone or ipad, just on the mac. thanks - alex

@@SimplyOffGridLife Hi my friend, as for the hotspot I happily use a small Pi0 that is cheap and works well, I leave it on even for weeks without problems, although yes, the terminal mode if you don't have to jump from one reflector to another is excellent! As for sdr remote, I'm testing it overlan from my home office and for now the most satisfying setup is to have wfview on the home mac that acts as a server and remotely sdr control on my iphone this has allowed me to make several qsos in voice remotely away from my home.

I have to try it out later on. My IC-7300 is the base unit and the ic-705 I use as my vhf/uhf radio mostly at home, but it will be used on all bands when offgrid, rving, etc. I have a bunch of H3 and H8, we use it when were in the moutains, hiking, fishing. The group is alway in contact with everyone. It even handy not having to shout out, so I am heard inside the trailer. Thanks for the info, keep in touch, alex

Good job folks - we are going to get a Joolca system for a new cottage lease site. No permanent structures are allowed on the land so we will set up the Joolca cube tent system with the shower ensuite and Joolca GottaGo. We are about 300' from the lake so I will likely use a small gen pump system to bring water up to a 100 gallon water bladder near the picnic table. Vevor has a nice selection of bladders and rain barrels for water storage. Should be perfect for us and our two little dogs! Videos like yours have helped convince my wife that this is the way to go.

Good not just for hot showers but for cooling down when too hot outside, heat spell We extend the water supply in the RV by using it, especially when off grid. Keep the grey tank from filling up too . We use blue storage containers. Holds 20 gallon each. When possible we try filling with potable water when available near by. With truck we can refill quick. We have the two man tent they provide. Just right. I can see in some more permanent situation, the 3 section could be handy. For us the two room unit is just right.

Chirp had another update after this one. It did fix deny fm list, but new settings and some new minor bugs. It more aware of version for tidradio. If you are updating an older version, that doesn't support receive frequencies like 10 meters etc, it wo'n't upload the file. If ur radio has latest version, you will now see more setting. Though, I did find some minor bugs with the lastest chirp program. Currently i have all my radio firmware Aug 17, 2024, so far no issues. Apprently it not officially released as of this date.

The blackberry approach would be cheaper, but apparently support will disapper by end of this year? Something to keep in mind. If we decide to get one, we will do a setup and test video. The only concern would be, will one use it enough to justify the purchase?

I found another step/alteration on terminal mode. If you start by going DR mode, then go to terminal mode, enter ip/domain address, exit out back to DR mode. Select TO, enter the /xlsxxx plus port if required, link with a forward slash in Direct Input (RPT). The go to gateway and select terminal mode, Then key PTT for verification of connection. One should be heard, with no x coming back. If you enter the info in Direct input (UR), it appears to work, but it seems to autofill the (RPT). Not always, so using (RPT) seem more reliable. Probably a firmware bug issue?? Basically, before, after entering the ip/domain, I went directly to terminal mode, then went to the TO field and entered /xlsxxx add a port if needed. Then keyed for verification of connection. Feels faster to do it this way. It would be nice if they added a list of all the ip/domain address that you entered and can scoll and select from the list. Hopefully the next firmware update will finish properly the Terminal Mode.

It would free up my ic-705 and I can use iphone or ipad to monitor/chat on. No radio required. One wouldn't have to buy another dstar radio. For mobile use, the iphone with cellular data would be enough for monitoring or an urgent need to contact. The unit is grabbing my curiousity. hi friend! i saw that your ic705 arrived and also SDRControl! what do you say do you like the radio and the software?!
@SimplyOffGridLifeАй бұрын
I have to admit, I like the 705 now, more than 7300. They are very identical, other than 10 watt verses 100 watt and Dstar & no Dstar on ic7300. (for vhf/uhf should be a must). Also usb/wifi vrs just usb connections. The Ic-705 make it better for mobile, portable use. For apartment dwellers, they can use internet to make connections globally. We are just exploring DR mode and Dstar terminal mode, more to come. For home base use, the IC-7300 is more than adequate. We needed a second radio with vhf/uhf, so both fill our needs. If you only want HF, no interest in vhf/uhf option or Dstar options, than IC-7300 or similar would be best. If one only can have one radio, then 705. Later one could add tuner and amplifier if needed. The only very small shortcomming is lack of builtin tuner. However, I have no problem matching the antenna. I was hoping to show a video on this shortly. I will be showing Comet model ca-2x4sr with pl259 connector testing swr on 2 & 70cm. We use this for that band, allowing us to connect to a dozen or so repeaters. Will demo the pro and con of this antenna, We are just about finishing setup on channel and dv repeater modification. i found another reason to have fm repeater list in DV memory. One can check the distances from your location. It will list on nearby repeaters. Handy when you do lots of traveling. Also, it useful for Hotspot setup for DV. More than come Regarding SDR Control. Currently for Apple devices the best option. Only icom could do better if they made their control software available for mac, not just windows. Guess, they lack programmers or something. They have release some app, they kinda of work, but very buggy still. I have been using the desktop version for a long time, no issues, does it all. Works just the same when connected to ic705 via wlan. The only weakness I found so far, has to do with scanning, scan slow down a lot, but work great. If I am monitoring on SDR Control, but physically can approach the ic705, I would start the scan and walk away. Then the scan speed is fast. I be showing more details later, but for remote, I found the iphone useful, because you always have it with you. Used it for tuning antenna, output watt at antenna input. Don't have to have a second person, keying the PTT. Do it on the phone. Work great for chating too.

@@SimplyOffGridLife I agree with every word you say. I love your answers so rich in information! and I really love the 705 that I use almost every morning in qrp from the beach before going to work! now I have ordered a clone of the Juma 150w amplifier and I want to try to use ic705 in the station as the only radio (I will let my 7300 and 9700 rest a bit) if the combination satisfies me I think I will sell my two main devices and keep only the 705 at the moment I do not use tuners neither in the station nor in portable activity but I agree that a big lack of the 705 is the lack of an internal tuner.

Now I know how to recieve pictures, eh.....lol. take care
@SimplyOffGridLife29 күн бұрын
Sound good. Yes, with HF one usually moving antenna, unless fixed at homebase, so tuner reduces setup time. HF matching, bandwidth is narrow, so lot of redoing matching, unlike vhf/uhf, as shown in my next video, broad banded and one can kick it around, move it, etc and SWR is all good. I believe all the tuner that are sold for the ic705 are only for HF bands & I think 6m. So 2m and 70cm no tuner regardless, but as my video demo, not an issue. Keep in touch and let me know how the amp work. Be nice to get amp and tuner in one, but usually they are for home base setup. Correct me if I am wrong. I will be keeping my IC7300, so I would not need amps or tuners, I thnk it would be cheaper in the end. Accessories are over priced. 73's

@SimplyOffGridLifeАй бұрын
It is nice to program the channels. I created seversl groups. One could create groups that you use alot and want to scan. Like a homebase group. Created a group for 6m, 2, 7cm, etc. Depending on your travels, you can create group that have the repeaters for the city you are in. If you are into EchoLink, repeaters that support it could be in a group.

If you are having issues with turning on CTCSS, located at menu 11, the fix is to go to menu 47, Function 47.Dec. code needs to be off. @@SimplyOffGridLife Thanks for your reply and for the clarification. My aim is to use the radio when joining with other people to go on off-road journeys, and having a way to easily copy the frequencies from their radios is a well appreciated feature. in another words, I think it's a downside for the H8 not having this feature (well, I can always use the H3 to find other radios frequency and code and set the H8 accordingly). I am an complete amateur and this is my first contact with a programmable two way radio (before I had a couple of Motorola Talkabout) and by the way, the first thing I tried to do was to put the Tidradios (I bought a H3 and two H8) to communicate with the Motorolas, though I had no experience at all, I found quite easy to do. kudos to tidradio for making this process so easy.

No on their site, just experimental sites. I tried it and don't see anything new. Some bugs I did notice. Stick to the June firmware, no difference features between june or july. I have install an august beta, some bugs. Lost of Transmission for some, they are looking for cause, initially firmware was the suspect, however, from my experience at this end, I think the issue is method of firmware update & possible issue with their option mic/speaker unit. Transmitting out of band, could result in very high SWR, killing the finals. Alway check SWR that it less than 3 or better. Some radio. will not allow transmission when swr is 3 or more ratio. Like Icom. Don't think this feature is fully inplemented on the H3 or H8 All to be determined.

Probably SDR Control needs to add the feature, if wfview can do it, the author should add that feature. FYI: The battery indicator is not a continous state of charge monitor. It updates only when you turn it off and on. This may be the same with default firmware. So far, no issues, I like the S meter and RF output indicator. Hitting other keys can update battery too.

It is beta, no issue with any of my 4. I constantly do firmware update. Sometimes a bug can happen. I do a eeprom erase if an issue. so far all good. Radio are so cheap to buy and Tidradio will replace the unit within warranty period. I had the 2407 install when it was first released. It was removed and they offered june version. Which I tested and doesn't seem to lose any features. I suspect it the option mics that are causing any of the issue. Excessive drive issue i suspect. Just guessing from what I can ascertain? Love the units. Great for kicking around the radio and not concern about damage or lost or theft unlike my icoms, etc. If in rough enviroment use, I use the h3.

So far, all good and nice with the mods. I like the S-meter now and even rf power, it will show your low power and high. It also shows the tones and the frequency the reapeater uses. Tidradio should add this feature to their next official updates, hopefully.
