TRACEN Cape May, USCGC Diligence, TRACEN Petaluma, Group Boston, TAD RecruitOff Phoenix, DC HQ Office of the Commandant, DHS HQ (detailed as CG Liaison to the ExecSec of DHS - first one when DHS was founded) Law Enforcement Boarding Officer (Caribbean), Cutter Rescue Swimmer (Caribbean), and of course as a Coastie, a bunch of other duties. I actually was the first Coast Guardsmen to open the letter from Warner Brothers to the Group Boston Commander requesting permission to film The Perfect Storm in the Gloucester MA area. My own little fun fact. And I can say this about the Guardian - it was hella accurate as far as my experience went. From the burn-out saltiness of the Senior Chief to the wide eyed innocence of the trainees. From the interactions between individuals and ranks both professionally and personally, to the storyline roles of hard nosed leadership and mentorship and bonding. The lessons and styles in leadership I learned while a young Coastie from my chiefs and other leaders reflected well in Costner and Kutcher. The accuracy of not only the obvious leaders like the Senior Chief, but also the facet of peer leadership - as seen in Kutcher with his peers. Coasties serve and leave with a sense of confidence of Can Do and Will Do because of warranted experiences of truly learning what we are capable of. Im sure its no different than the other services in that regard. But what is different, from my years of experiences from knowing other servicemembers, is how quickly and eager the Coast Guard is to place important responsibilities, including life and death of self and others, at such a young age and within mere months of beginning service. Just like the movie, the idea of removing your SELF and thinking of others is such a true true aspect of the Coast Guard. Anyway, great job on this video and to the makers of the actual movie, great work on representing the CG in such an accurate way, given the costraints if hollywood and plot requirements and so forth. I’ll be forever grateful for your dedication and attention to detail.

I’m working as an electrician apprentice and my boss said he’s gotten 5 calls from people looking for work in the last month or two when he hadn’t received a single call for over two years previously. Things are definitely slowing down.

Really? I never counted how much I saved, but there is a number of those I couldn't rescue. Sometimes it kills my sleep but I loved this job. So may be right.

The first time i watched the Perfect Storm I though they made a mistake in the plot where coast guard fellows jump into stormy dark waters. I just couldn't believe how when everything you want in this world is to get out and as far inland as possible those guys come around and plunge into that darkness of the ocean waves. These men deserve a standing respect!

They a very rare men, like a giant pink diamond, but their out there. DEVGRU & CAG jump out of C130's at 30,000 ft. with oxygen on in the cold black night sky, only to have land in a cold stormy sea, & perhaps climb aboard a production platform were worker have been taken hostage by pirates. These men go on missions over & over until their ticket is punched. They don't do for fame or fortune, just for the honor of saving a human life. You will never know their names or hear about them on the T.V. radio, or computer, but their out there.

The armed forces, first responders, and medical professionals, and anybody else keeping this country safe, healthy and educated are the only people I respect, as for the average citizen, I couldn’t care less what they do as long as it isn’t some stupid bullshit that hurts their community as well as themselves.
