A 500 2 stroke at full throttle is a beautiful thing. I remember wringing my CR500's neck back when I owned one. The vibrations through the pegs and handle bars coupled with that instantaneous power as you crack the throttle was so addictive. The new 450's still don't have that thrill factor and are boring by comparison. Always wanted to try out a KX500.

Love little bikes, but if that's your sole ripper, I would've went with a KX85 or 85BW.... still small, but much more room to actually whip it

She's either super cold blooded, or she's lean....or your plug is fouled, because she's breaking up when it should be warm enough to give her full throttle and she should snap to attention.... I couldn't even ride my CR250R's in the snow due to loss of traction once I gave her any throttle, let alone my old CR480R or CR500's (Honda and Husky.... shame I don't have any of my 2t's anymore 😖)

I did aquire when I was a teen before I got disabled a KX the person said it was a 250 but it had no stickers it had Kips aftermarket jug and cylinder head and a billet piston. My Dad and I put compression gauge on it and it level out at 275 lbs on compression gauge. My mechanic said a stock one has about 175 lbs comp. I dont know if it was just bored and stroked or if it was a 500 and I did not know it.

I had a KX 250, always wanted a 500. Tried a buddy’s once and I was hooked. Very good machines, keeps a guy respecting the power cause if you f$ck up you’ll find out.
