I’m a boat Capt and have seen “Free Negro Point” on the chart and wondered about the story behind it. Thanks for the video explaining the name. It was kind of disturbing to see it on the chart like that without understanding the back story…. Which is just as disturbing, but in a different way. Something really interesting to look into is the story of Capt. Israel Lewis (? I think the name is correct?), the first black Towboat captain. He worked at Warrior & Gulf Navigation Co.(Owned itself by United States Steel Corp., a part of their transportation group) out of Mobile, Alabama. I always thought his was an important story, too significant to just be lost to history. It was my understanding that Capt. Lewis was born in what was known as “Africa Town” in Mobile, and he was a direct descendant of the last group of slaves brought to America. That final slave ship was recently discovered at the point where it was scuttled back in the 1860’s.

Grew up in BR not far from SU and I had never heard this story. I only learned about the point when doing some research on the Battle of Baton Rouge and finding out the remains of the ironclad ship Arizona is said to be buried below the levee at the point. You made one comment that is really interesting to me ... that the area was not part of the Louisiana Purchase. Do you know why or can you point me to any information to confirm that? Thx

That California sunshine just hit different. They looked and sounded great. It's great they got a enthusiastic response from the crowd. For a lot of the and members it was their first time ever flying and for most of them first time in California. Looking back at this in May who knew we'd be in lock-down mode.

Keyona Johnson California is a very clean and strict state. I’m a truck driver, they have very strict laws for trucks to keep the air clean. Pasadena is a nice city. That state really likes things to be in order if they can help it lol
@JairTheLiteraryMasturbator4 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons the Rose Parade was started was to entice people back east and in the midwest to Southern California who most likely would be dealing with cold weather and snow on January 1st. The organizers wanted people to see it was warm and sunny so they have always made sure Pasadena looks the best it can.

Yeah Rose bowl parade don’t have horse shit everywhere on the streets for the marching bands to step in.
@mainejones9893 жыл бұрын
That's because the floats don't throw anything and there are no horses really the only reason but what would mardi gras be without horses and beads
@KayKayy983 жыл бұрын
@@mainejones989 right they come for the free stuff thrown out of floats but yet complain when there’s trash. There’s not enough time to clean all of that up between every float.
