Sadly this happens all the time. Make sure your surgeon knows they are no better than a plumer or a carpenter. They are nothing but a service. Remember by law it is your way or the highway. They can recommend things but it is up to you not them.

Although pain may be a consideration, I don't think that is the issue here. I thought that short presentation of what should happen with consent before a surgery was out of context to the problem. It sounded like leading the patient and could be little intimidating to some.

I'm crying. I'm a nurse (BSN/Masters) 4 year psych degree for 32 years, mother of three, one on the autistic spectrum with adhd. This story and the way he told it is so deeply moving. This right here is why you work in medicine, why you work to help others. My beautiful girl wants to pursue this school and become a physician. As a mother I have many reservations, but listening to this accomplished man and his humanity I can see my 5 sport athlete, EMT, who helped her autistic brother all these years being that kind of person. I'm so glad I got to hear this wonderful man speak about his experiences.

This video was incredible! Truly an honor and an opportunity to attend this well-esteemed medical university and develop a profound understanding of what it means to be a service to our country and our communities. Having an additional 700 hours of field training extends beyond the realm of basic medical knowledge and equips medical professionals with techniques and skills needed to better their patients and fellow comrades. I hope I get to be a part of this family!
