I grew up down by Effingham. Actually east of there on I-70. Never sure if southern Illinois or central illinois claims it.

I visited that Cemetery many times as a youth. I grew up on the Mandel Farm (Two farms west...first was Cecil Carls Horse Farm). The Mandel Farm today is Arrowhead Industrial Park and on the North side, Lakewood Subdivison. This Cemetery was always 'spooky' since it was in the middle of corn fields and right off of what the locals called Normantown Road and the EJ&E Railroad Tracks. Another historic Cemetery is located on property owned by Zion Lutheran Church. The Old original Church was moved across the Street(111th ) but for years stood at the Corner of 111th and Book Roads. The old church was burned by vandals back in the early 2000's, but the Cemetery remains today in its original location. The Zion Church dates back to the 1850's and many of the stones in the Cemetery date in the 1850's forward. It has been years since I moved out of the area, but those Cemeteries will always be in my memories of the Wheatland Township area growing up when I had neighbors, but had to ride by bicycle to make good time. The area was composed entirely of farms. In the 1970's we all thought it strange that a gas station appeared off Wolf Rd (95th) and Book. Before that you'd have to drive to either 59 to Naperville or Plainfield, or go the opposite to route 30 and you had Aurora to the North, Plainfield to the South or go west into Kane or Kendall counties to Oswego. But make no mistake....it was as rural as it got until much later. That area was unique at Rt 30 and Wolf (95th) as far as it was the corner to Kendall, Kane and Will counties with Dupage being a mile or two away. Harley Schoger, mentioned in the beginning, was one of the kindest man I have known in my lifetime. The Schoger family remains good friends with myself and my family. Thank you for the video. I'd have to check, but somewhere I have very early arial video of the Old Zion church. If you compared it to today...you'd be shocked! For the people that didn't move to the area until the 1980's and beyond....you'd never believe the progress in just a few short years. Growing up...on 95th /Wolf You could drive from our farm to the train Station in Naperville in about 15minutes or less! If you are lucky today you can drive from Arrowhead to the Rt 59/95th street corner in about 20! 😉

Thank you for sharing that information. I only moved to this area in 2000, and I've seen a lot of change since then. I can't imagine how it was back in the earlier years. I'll be sure to check out the Zion cemetery on 111th. The older I get, the more stories about local history mean to me. Thanks again. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I lived on a farm just west of this cemetery and passed it every day. I knew it was historic and was protected mainly because of the native grasses, so thank you for this history.
