You should go back and check out the Unseen World album from Band Maid... it was my favorite until now. Now I have to figure out if this takes it's place. You would like The Warning, they also had a new album this year I'm sure you guys will enjoy.

This is a great album - my favourite song is The One. But I'll say here that you've skipped Unseen World from 2021, which is both insane and a masterpiece.

Stray kids survival show was a lil different. The group was formed before the show started (Bang Chan formed it) and in the show they had to prove to the company they can debut as a whole group and not loos any members in the process. I think only two skz songs were not produced by them in which case they only write lyrics(star lost and all in). They have producers they work along with but you can safely say that all of their discography is produced by them. Lately Chan is also credited as a sound engineer...

Hi guys just one thing I think Brian was overselling Band-Maiko they DO NOT play the traditional instruments they use samples over the original re-worked songs and it is still Rock.

Cool introduction to Band-Maid, guys. Every Maidiac has their favorite songs or albums and the Maids put such quality into their work that preferences can change. Each album is different because the Maids like to mix all genres of rock or even musical genres and they know how to do it perfectly well. What makes them unique is that they compose, arrange and produce their own sound and write the lyrics themselves. But their greatest quality is undoubtedly on stage where they can play a 3-hour concert with a very high level of technicality while having fun. That's what we call service well done.

Welcome, Larry & Brian. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 190 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Shambles, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX2lkHiGiJlrfqc) And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. kzbin.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:  ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHLHiKF_h896l80  Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k  ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6K0n35_gbdoq5I  Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD.  “P and D⁴” Photo Collage videos at www.youtube.com/@PinDakaPanic810 And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:  Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/epjbhmCDi8-nl5I  See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJu9nIGbpKygnsU If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid Members: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 29 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. [BAND-MAID NEWS]  BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the Acoustic Christmas 2021, ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo  The Maids SOLD OUT 2023 US & Mexico tour wrapped up and was a fantastic success. And so many great live fancams to watch! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!! In addition, their Japan tour finished up with 13 concerts, AND they’re writing and recording for their new album. Their 10th Anniversary Tour concluded at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26, 2023 and in Hong Kong Dec. 21! The Maids are one of the hardest working super groups in the business! Their music, their sound, each of the Maids, and the love that permeates their live events is an experience not to be missed. Hope you can catch them LIVE!

Don't know how it would fit into your format, but Band Maid is best served live. The band gets extra energy from an audience and pumps that energy into their performance. A prime example is the "title" song Domination. The official live video of Domination versus the studio cut is night and day.

You should listen to them play these songs live. Check out Domination Live for a ride. They occasionally add to their songs for live performances, this is one example. Band-Maiko was an April fools joke they did a song for one year that was super popular, so the next year they made an album. The songs are all covers (except 1) of band maid songs. The ladies all play their normal instruments, but the lead guitarist/composer wrote additional parts for traditional instruments mixed in and rewrote the lyrics in a different dialect. The 2 songs in Kate are Choose Me and Blooming. Seen them live twice in the states, it’s one of the best rock shows I’ve been to.

Miku actually rewrote the lyrics in the Kyoto dialect for the Band-Maiko songs, not Kanami. Since the band got creative control Miku writes almost all the lyrics, although Saiki occasionally contributes and has written the lyrics to 3 songs by herself recently, Corallium, Hate?, and Magie. Kanami tried writing lyrics early on, but the band decided they were too strange (they described them as "airy-fairy") and Miku took it upon herself to become the main lyricist.

Right… I knew that but got sloppy in my explanation. Was not explicit about who did the lyrics and by inference my wording implies Kanami did it. Thanks

Great to see more people dive into Babymetal, I'm not gonna repeat what Grinton said., just wanted to add some very small things. A random fact: Herman Li said in an interview: "[Road of Resistance] faster than some of our songs !" 🙂Somehow that was always funny to me, in part because Dragonforce also performed the song ones with Babymetal. Let's be very clear, just like a professional musician, playing without looking becomes normal, similar to touch typing in a computer, 'just' a matter of practice... you build up muscle memory. Very common mistakes, so don't worry: Line is not the name of the song, it's actually called: iine. The song with Tom Morello is called: Metali or Metari, which is a combination of the word for the traditional Japanese festival: matsuri and metal. Their is a reason for it, In Song [of] 4 aka Yon No Uta they often say in the song: Yon Yon which is: 4 4, so of course it's the number 8 track, because 4 and 4 makes 8. Maybe the best part of the song is the lyrics, it's packed with puns. Then you realize the puns were made by 2 little girls, clever girls indeed. The reason why Babymetal works: lots of older metal was more melodic and Babymetal is mixing all forms of metal with more pop-like melodic elements also becomes more melodic. You can find covers online of burly men doing the vocals as you might expect a metal band to have... and it sounds like any good metal. The vocals aren't for everyone, that's just how it is. And the next part is: talent and hard work, lots of hard work. And delivering an even better live experience. If you talk to almost any Babymetal fan for most songs: they listen more to the live version than the album version. The first album has some of the most popular songs of Babymetal. A whole bunch of songs are really made for the live performance.

Good review. I'll try to clarify a couple of points or questions you had. Their 4 studio albums are 'BABYMETAL' - 2014, 'Metal Resistance' - 2016, then as a duo of Su-metal and Moametal 'Metal Galaxy' - 2019 and finally 'The Other One' - 2023. After Yui left in October 2018 Su and Moa continued as a duo for 4 or 5 years supported from 2019 by 3 dancers (known as the Avengers) who would take turns dancing in the third spot in live shows. One of those dancers was Momoko and from about March or April 2020 she was the only one of those three dancers still with BABYMETAL. BABYMETAL played 10 concerts at the Budokan in Tokyo over the first 3 or 4 months of 2021 as part of their 10th anniversary celebration and in October 2021 they announced they would be taking a hiatus. It was during this time that Momoko took part in the show on South Korean TV. In October 2022 BABYMETAL released a new single and announced they would be releasing another single each month until they would finally return with live shows starting in late January 2023 - nearly 2 years after their last live concerts at the Budokan - and that they would release a new concept album ('The Other One') in March 2023. At their next shows at the PIA MM Arena in Yokohama on 1st and 2nd April 2023 Momoko, was finally revealed as the new official third member, Momometal. BABYMETAL supported Red Hot Chilli Peppers on tour in the UK late in 2016 and again in the US early in 2017. They have also toured with Lady Gaga, Korn and Stone Sour, Guns n Roses, Sabaton, opened for Metallica in Seoul. Most recently they co-headlined a US and Canada tour with Dethklok (the BABYKLOK Tour). Many bands have also opened for BABYMETAL including Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Sleep Token, Wargasm UK, The Hu and many more. As well as the last song of the UK tour where Chad Smith played 'Painkiller' and 'Breaking The Law' (they originally performed these with Rob Halford from Judas Priest) before giving Su her birthday cake there are a couple of videos (from the US tour I think) where all of RHCP including Flea joined BABYMETAL to play 'Gimme Chocolate' (may be found on YT under Chilli Chocolate perhaps) and where BABYMETAL all came on stage during a RHCP song. They also played live on stage with DragonForce at Download UK 2015 and a few days later at an awards show in London. BABYMETAL have also collaborated with (among others) Alyssa White Gluz from Arch Enemy, Tim Henson and Scott Le Page from Polyphia, F Hero (Thai rapper), Bring Me The Horizon, Lil Uzi Vert, Tak Matsumoto from Japan's biggest ever selling band B'z ... I've missed at least a couple more. Live BABYMETAL is where they are at their best. Even they described the first album as their calling card. If you have any doubts about one of their songs hold off making a final decision until you have seen them play it live ... it will be better (same goes for the songs you like). The albums are like taster menus - you won't get the full flavour with the extra spices and vegetables until you order the main dish ... the live performances with the stage performance, choreo, live vocals and the Kami Band playing all the live instrumentals is what BABYMETAL are all about and they are one of the best live acts on the planet right now. 'Song 4' (or '4 No Uta') is a Black BABYMETAL song. Black BABYMETAL was the duo of Yuimetal and Moametal performing without Su-metal. There are 2 Black BABYMETAL songs on this first album ('Song 4' and 'Onedari Daisakusen') and 2 Su-metal solos (so no Yui or Moa ... 'Rondo of Nightmare' and 'Akatsuki'). The second album also has 2 Black BABYMETAL songs and 2 Su-metal solos. Yuimetal and Moametal have writing credits (lyrics and music - not the arrangement of course) for 'Song 4'. They wrote it on the tour bus in Singapore in 2012 - they were only 12 at the time. Japan has (at least) two counting systems. In one 4 is shi in the other it is yon. Shi is also the word for death, so 4 is considered the most unlucky number and is avoided. In the song they are listing other words that contain 'shi' (eg Bitamin No Shi - vitamin C) and saying those words don't mean death so neither does shi as 4 and it is all just a ridiculous superstition. The fact it is placed as track number 8 on the album ... that was probably a bit of a joke.

dreamcatcher \:D/ felt like the one introduced was more researched than the one who introduced lol interesting how you almost only talked about their solos. each wrote and composed their own solos and if you know their personalities are very good representation of themselves and their musical preference. 'winter' and 'beauty full' are actually puns on their names as winter in chinese sounds like the member who wrote it, handong. dami's name literally translate to 'more/a lot beauty' so beauty full. as for some of the summaries you read online, take with a grain of salt. I'm not exactly sure who wrote those but they aren't always accurate. 'for' was written "for insomnias", their fans since all of them and the group have strong feelings for the fans who stuck with them and lifted them essentially from rock bottom. each of their albums has a ballad type song also dedicated for fans so although 'always' can be read as about a significant other, they always hint it's about their fans. interestingly enough, the diversity in their solos is also a good example of diversity in their discography since they almost never reuse genres/sub-genres used in previously songs. they are known for incorporating rock/metal instrumentation in many of their songs but always use different aspects of rock/metal from different eras.
