The most bizarre thing was seeing a British country band called The Orange Blossom Sound performing a cover of this on The Benny Hill Show. Except they changed the lyrics to "Just for a short vacation I went down to Mexico".

The Monkees started as a fake band for a T.V. show. These guys were actors who'd never met before the T.V. show. They didn't know how to play instruments on a professional level ; their recordings used studio musicians. As in this video they would lip- sync and pretend to play instruments. Just saying. They did make a thing out of it, however. A couple of them could actually sing and play some.
