It's time for Adam Wharton and Cole Palmer. Could we have a left back as well ?

I don’t know what it is about England. They have all the talent in the world, but they seem to lack creativity and it feels as though players are playing ”scared”. The only player I feel really expresses himself on the pitch is Jude Bellingham. Is the pressure from the nation too much to handle, or is it something that’s instilled from an early age in academies?

The host asking “do you ever play a player out of position to punish him” that speaks volumes about his mindset and he didn’t even flinch

I’ve got a 13 year old boy and an 11 year old girl both playing academy level. Love the podcast. Can you also get some people in from the girls/womens game. Would love to see if and where the differences are.

England have a Defensive Manager who trust his instincts to defend and not trust the talents of these attacking players. In The MIC22,23 and 24 (Mediterean International Cup {Mainly 12-18years} ), and i saw English Academy teams play at 100miles per hour all the time and only get to Quarter or Semi Finals) of these tournsments. Spanish/portugal and dutch teams varry the tempo if their play and know more about game Management(IQ) and the solution is Style of play, Game management and patience when needed. This comes from the Coaches and is transmitted to players..Sadly, England have the talent, but if they do not use game IQ, they will beat us.. ie Itsly knew they could not beat us man to man, but, game management took them to a50/50 chsnce to win the last Euros. Hopefully Gareth Southgate has learnt his lesson

Also, everyone keeps talking about tactics, formations and roles. However, here what we have is a hybrid of the OLD and Modern football. Southgate needs to decide on his style of play and stick to it because i think it is confissing and unclear for the players. If we are goibg to play long, get Harry Kane as a No.9 up the field and in the six yard box, not in a hybrid 9/10 role. Southgate needs to use his Football IQ or we will not win this tournament

The first 20minutes was excellent, but when England are under pressure, Kanes position and movement is poor, (if he is too deep and static) he allows their defenders to attack and be a threat. I think Southgate confuss’s defending at all cost, appossed to game management & keep Posession of the ball (either that or he prefers to defend and not trust the players to keep the ball). In this game, it didnt matter, but against a quality team, we will get eliminated. By the way, with the exception of Saka, i though England main problem was inteligent movement OFF the ball when in possession was poor, especially in second half 2.. Pickford giving the ball back to them 70% was unforgiverable at too international lvl. If thst is the managers tactic, we are doomed. But a great win and what a fantastic performsnce by Saka and Bellingham who were outstanding

I couldn't agree more with Mike in the mindset of investment, a positive and growth mindset. This is so important for young footballers and it starts at home. As a father I can see the challenges for ensuring my young man has that. It is a challenge at times, as they get older and wish to test boundaries but helping them to keep the mindset of growth and future goals is so very important.

Just because Rice isnt a great, distributor doesn’t mean hes not an excellent CDM. It depends on the style of play. Not every team has to play out from the back and attempt this Barcelona identity which isn’t congrous with England anyway

Big dilemma for Gareth Southgate, in his tactics he seems grant Jude Bellingham lots of freedom to roam but this has undesired consequence is at expense of other players’ game, e.g. Jude often demands ball and appeared in the space where Foden suppose to cut inside, Kane likes to come deep to get the ball but often found overlapping the same center space with Bellingham, Saka is more like a traditional winger in this game, again it’s the same reason, this might well be a tournament for Bellingham but not necessarily a good news for England, Bellingham needs to be more team player, because England doesn’t have a quarter back type of CDM like Toni Kroos , for the commonly good, it’s better to start Bellingham from the deeper position, if you want start him upfront in the centre of the diamond then striker choice should be someone like wakins, not Kane, Kane pull himself back into midfield too often, but Bellingham has already taken over that roll unfortunately for Kane….you need someone always upfront to give the pressure

The host has a very fixed opinion, giving anecdotal evidence collected at the side of a pitch and trying to correlate that to make him right. If a player has unhealthy parents ie. Diet, exercise etc that simply tells you how they live, it doesn’t say anything about their genetics, you can’t know what would happen if that Mum and Dad suddenly went to the gym and cleaned up their lifestyle……….very frustrating listen……your mate keeps laughing because you are wrong

Merse saying you need 4 coaches for 16. I coach 13 lads mainly on my own ha! Its Grassroots, but 2 which is 8 players per coach is fine I think

I think it's great that the Dad is spending so much time with him and developing his psychology and skills. Regardless of whether he makes it at football he will still be successful. Many parents who criticise these parents for not giving him a childhood, will just leave their kids in front of tablet or mobile instead.

The point of they are just not good enough will be confirmed or denied once they are given a chance. My son at a cat1 academy and there is only 1 south asain child in the group. so if he doesnt make it then yeah hes not good enough, but more of them need to be given a chance..... simples

How do you find the medium between bio banding and age bias? Is there one? A child born late in the year who grows early or a child born early in the year growing late.

I love that term “Win your battle”, but everyones battle is different: 1v1s, defending space, stopping opponent, controlling my emotions (See 5Cs of Dr Chris Harwood), physical battles and many many more. These battles can be Intrinsic or Extrinsic .. 🤔
