Rachele, your video popped up after I was watching another video about CGS. I told my son, who was watching with me, "I know her! I met her in Italy." Your doing awesome work! I'm working with another mom to bring CGS to our area.

Hi, Rachele! Seeing your video/channel for the first time. Wondering how do you keep the littler ones from literally overthrowing prepared materials not intended for them? Currently dabbling in homeschool when both kids are home (preK and 2 yo), but cannot keep things like salt letter tracing accessible because of the littler one’s love for snatching/throwing, in spite of access to balls for throwing/etc.

Hey there! Thanks for watching and great question. Totally get it! I’ve had to move MANY materials off the shelves for my now toddler. I don’t keep art supplies, our sand tray, or scissors out for her safety and my sanity! Totally normal, and simply a season we are both in. I would keep those materials out of reach and just explain to the big kids that they will have to ask you to use those materials. When you think you can bring those materials back out again, do it slowly. And train your young ones on how to care for the materials remembering that it’s a process and each kiddo will be ready at a different time. I hope that helps!

@@thecatholicmontessoriway yes that helps! That’s what I’ve been doing. I feel kind of bad about it though because it’s a little “out-of-sight-out-of-mind” so it only gets used if someone remembers. But yes it’s season so I’ll keep that in mind! Thank you!

Hey there! Great question! You would want to introduce the beads using a three-period lesson. When you first introduce the beads stack them in a triangle shape from smallest to largest, and when you restore the work hang them from smallest to largest to show the quantity of each bead. Also, here is a helpful website that helped me teach this valuable lesson: montessorifortoday.com/how-to-teach-math-with-montessori-beads/

Great question! Two things: 1) I simply have an ongoing list of observations per child in my notes app on my phone. Each time I notice a child testing a new skill, mastering a new skill, or bored of a particular work, I include it in my notes app. 2) I refer to various books, and my favorite blogs (especially The Montessori Toddler by Simone Davies) for activities that are typically given as work for a child their age. However, I’m careful not to lean too much into that since I’m mainly following their lead instead of what most kids do, if that makes sense.

As a certified formation leader and longtime catechist in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, I take exception to the statements made about supposed "gaps". For example the Trinity is presented beginning at an early age including presentations of the Sign of the Cross and Baptism and perhaps less explicitly in the infancy narratives and Pentecost. In fact, our whole catechesis has been described as Christological-Trinitarian.
@thecatholicmontessoriway
@thecatholicmontessoriway Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Susan, and your experience as a catechist! The question was asked specifically to help parents who may have reservations about the program. This seems to be a common question that sometimes holds parents back from considering this lovely program for their kids. The video was meant to highlight the beauty of CGS and possibly correct any misunderstandings out there. You’re right about introducing the concept of the Trinity through the Sign of the Cross presentation! Great point!
@StFrancisXavierCGS
@StFrancisXavierCGS Жыл бұрын
Clearly this was done with great love and best intentions. Communities that have worked on conformity with diocesan guidelines usually do so as a team that includes those formation leaders who train catechists. It is easy to miss all that the presentations offer. The method highlights the connection between Bible and Liturgy including finding the prayers of the church in the words of scripture. My answers to questions of parents have changed as my understanding of the method has grown through working with the children and observing how they respond.

There are indeed some “gaps” as compared to diocesan requirements and to other programs - but they are not the essentials to the faith. Sometimes it’s just a case of the concepts are taught but the terminology is saved for the older child. Trinity - rooted in so much in the atrium. But how often do we use the word with the children in the atrium? But when I learn it later, they’ll know the concept. Prayers: Hail Mary is learned through the infancy narratives. The Our Father is analyzed at both level 2 and 3. Other prayers are brought in at various times, usually through communal prayer and Scripture-based prayers. Ten Commandments - deep dive into Moses typology in level 3 provides much more depth than if we’d done it in level 2 (where we have personal connections with the greatest commandment and the maxims first). No one faith formation opportunity has everything. It couldn’t. CGS is no different in that regard. We just get to go deeper with richer content and form the soul’s relationship with God, as well as nourish the constant seeking for answers (whether spiritual or intellectual).

Hey Zoey! Thank you for the sweet comments! You made my day. And more importantly-welcome home to the faith! ❤️What grades did you teach? I taught middle school for many years before becoming a mama. So rewarding! Yes, I have many thoughts about the Montessori floor bed vs. crib that I’m happy to share! Totally get that it’s scary. We had a crib for my first two girls-mainly because I only adopted Montessori when Anna was six months old and my parents gifted me a beautiful crib… but with our little Gemma we are currently co-sleeping (which I love despite the controversy) and hope to move her into a floor bed in a few months! Going to make a video on it in the spring! 👍😘personally, I love co-sleeping until baby is ready to transition (around 8-9 months for my babies) and then transitioning to a bed. Definitely get a bumper and a twin sized mattress (helpful for keeping baby from rolling out and late night breastfeeding). Hope that helps you! I’ll keep the content idea in my mind for sure! Especially as we move Gemma to her own room 😊God bless you!

Thank you for sharing! I also have a word or phrase for the new year. Usually mine just comes to me sometime in the new year and it just follows me and at some point I’m like “oh I guess this is my word!”. But actually this year I’ve already felt like my word will be “Ebb and Flow”. Last year it was “Balance” and in this next season of life (baby #2 due in April) I just feel like I need to learn to accept imperfections and let go of control. Also I just wanted to say I deeply appreciate you talking about date nights with your hubby. That’s also a major goal of mine. And it’s nice to know I’m not alone. It’s easy for me to get discouraged when I see my other friends with more on their plate than me, going on date nights all the time. I feel like I’m failing as a wife. My husband has an inconsistent schedule right now, but even making time at home to be very intentional with our time once a week, as opposed to our every night (and enjoyed haha) tv show. And going out once a month feels a lot more doable. So thank you for sharing that. Really made me feel less alone ❤️
