Jeremy is extraordinary but Joanna David is far too confident, she doesn't play the shy, diffident character from the book well.

* SPOILER * Jeremy Brett's depiction of Maxim in this 1979 series appealed to me more than Lawrence Olivier's in the Hitchcock film. Olivier's Maxim seemed so cold, I wondered how his new wife managed to stay in love with him. Many thanks to the reviewers who mentioned that Joanna David's daughter played Mrs. de Winter in the 1997 version of Rebecca. And how interesting to know that both mother and daughter were in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice series (which is sheer perfection)! However, I agree with the reviewer who was disappointed in the way Rebecca's bedroom looked compared to how it was in the Hitchcock film. I also think Mrs. de Winter's first drive up to the mansion was not as entrancing as in Hitchcock's. (Why keep showing red azaleas again and again?) I wondered if the drive took that long just because the episode had to fill a certain time slot. When the sunken boat was shown, it looked like a toy boat to me. The burning down of Manderley was lacking in drama and looked fake; the ending suddenly skipped to Mrs. de Winter talking to someone and leaving this viewer wondering where Maxim was supposed to be.

This is the only version of Rebecca worth seeing! Jeremy Brett (as Maxim) is divine and Joanna David (as 'the girl') is perfect. Anna Massey is scarily sublime.

My favorite is still the original with Joan Fontaine and Lawrence Olivier. Although in black and white, the cinematography was amazing. The suspense was nerve wracking. Alfred Hitchcock directed it of course. However this version is wonderful. Hitchock would have been proud.

The standard set by Laurence Oliver is pretty high and this version did not do a justice with story. Jeremy is not a romantic material only he can play Cannon Doyal character Mr Holmes

Like the house keeper like how she kept saying her lady. She was definitely mad. Funny, she was, good. The picture seem to move slower than the original it drags on. That looks

Здесь мой драгоценный Лучано болен - немного простужен, это слышно на первых нотах и фразе "Gracia plena". Но какого мужества человек - не отменил выступление!! Браво! My precious Luciano is ill here - he has a little cold, you can hear it on the first notes and the phrase "Gracia plena". But what a brave man - he did not cancel the performance!! Bravo!

This is an excellent version of Rebecca. Joanne David who plays Rebecca is Emilia Fox’s (Silent Witniss)Mother in real life. Emilia Fox played the same role of Rebecca in the 1997 version with Charles Dance as Max

Odd not to use British music for a UK series (lots of French composer Debussy) - but only a musician might notice. Brett is fine except Olivier had those big, haunted eyes.
