5 years after you posted this: how do you feel about your experience w ramsa overall? Did you have a console or just the pres? I’m considering getting one and there’s just so little information out there about them
@GeoffBosco28 күн бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response. I had a console. A WRS. It has a nice sound to it. But the pres are just ok. I ended up upgrading to a Midas Venice U32. It has the same kind of warmth as the Ramsa, but the pres are on the same level as Audient. They can be clean and prestige to dirty and beautifully overdriven. I did a video recently a/bing a mix through it vs an itb mix. Just look through my recent vids to find it.

Sorry for the late reply. I actually made some adjustments to this mod that works better. I basically did the same thing but used a stiffer kind of foam. I forget what it's called. But it's the same foam that those interlinking foam mats are made of.

LOVE this! I have one of these and it’s my go-to metal snare drum for my kit. I found mine for $50 shipped online and was shocked by how good it sounded.
@GeoffBosco2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. From what I have learned since making this video, it is a steel snare, but it's coated with a layer of aluminum. And I think even at that thin of a layer, it does give it some aluminum snare-like qualities.

I love the sound of every one of Neil’s Ludwig kits. I loved the sound so much that I had a Counterparts kit replica that I still use today. I put some money into my kit because my 5 1/2 x 6” and 5 1/2 x 8” closed toms were not a popular item. I bought 2 of each 6” and 8” because I wanted to have a backup due to Ludwig phasing out those shells. I also bought 2 Tama 24” (not 22”) Tama gong bass drums and had them painted to match the rest of the kit. About a year later Ludwig started really getting into the hoops to get rid of the old way of mounting the drums and was able to get them for my 6” and 8” drums. I did end up getting the entire kit Vibra-Fibed. It really helped the drums project more. Anyway, Neil’s Ludwig’s by far are my absolute favorite???

I'm hearing stronger, punchier mids on the console. Similar to my own experience mixing in my DAW vs. mixing on two separate hardware (but digital) mixers - Allen and Heath Qu16 and through the MOTU mixer that's built into their AVB interfaces. I'm not sure why it "feels" so different, and there's no shortage of amazing-sounding "in the box" mixes, but this is a stark difference. Recently I've switched to only using the DAW as a record/playback system. Thanks for the video - enjoyed listening to your mix decisions in real time. My skills are a WIP and this is helpful!

Thank you so much for this. It's a real encouragement. I've been working on a short film project lately so I've been neglecting my channel lately. But, I'll try t9 keep posting even as I'm stressing about my movie. Lol
@joewilkie6 ай бұрын
Cool video- thanks for making this! I've been using MOTU AVB interfaces since last October and have gone from hopeful but skeptical to very happy with their system. The modular approach is what sold me. I keep an 8M (8 x 8 interface + ADAT) in a 6U rack with my guitar processor which also processes my band's vocal effects. When I need to rehearse with the band, I carry that rack to our rehearsal room and connect via ethernet to the AVB switch, which adds a B16 (16 x 8) stage box. When we gig, we connect a 24Ao to the switch and place it right next to the house stage box via 3x DB25-XLR breakout cables. When I'm not rehearsing or gigging, the 6U rack goes to my comfortable play/mix room, to a friend's house, on a road trip... 3 MOTU interfaces, each in separate racks creates a very flexible system, and we never need to worry about long, expensive snakes, since l all it needs is very inexpensive ethernet cable. Looking forward to hearing your comparison of analog vs. in the box mixes!

When the F series came out a friend of mine said he heard the sound of it and wasn't impressed, didn't like the eq and so on...well, I guess he was wrong this is clear, thanks for this video! From what I learned the pres and the summing are not different from the U series so...despite I could get an xl200, xl3 or even an audient aztec for reasonably chip money, those are really big and heavy and I think I'll go one for the f or u instead.
@GeoffBosco5 ай бұрын
I'm sure people who have worked on the big boy consoles (SSL, API, Neve) might have legit beefs with the EQs. But, for what these go for in comparison, it's hard for me to say boo. 😅
@Fagleboo6 ай бұрын
Sounds nice! Actually using a well recorded good song is so important. There are waay too many videos of people showing off gear with trash recordings, which they then rip into with unmusical, uneducated mixing. This really shows the mixer in a true musical context
@Garflips6 ай бұрын
Guess there just aren't that many of us Speeddrum users... Cool kit - appreciate the upload. I noticed that there is some dropout occasionally and I believe it's because of the numbers you used for the velocity layers. When I let Speeddrum automatically distribute/split the layers in a "fall" for example (it's in the menu to the left of the velocity bars) then look at the numbers in the top info bar, it turns out that the max velocity crossover number of a layer should be the same number as the starting number for the next layer above. I believe you were using the next value - which would seem to make sense - but actually that leaves a gap. Cheers!
