Where I live some folks call them “pitangas” or Guyana cherry. Their juice tastes good mixed with club soda and a little sugar and lime. Maybe even rum if you like a good time.

If you didn’t get any flowers on the Satsuma I would try stimulating it with micro nutrients and humic acid. If you have any clay in your soil I would remove it and replaced with a higher quality Forrest product.
@fruitmommy_2 ай бұрын
Sounds like a nutrition problem… we recommend soil building :)

Looks like the trees need a little more chill hours but it's fruiting well i wonder how they taste with low chill hours.
@fruitmommy_7 ай бұрын
Thank you Julio, yes these cherry trees are specifically created to be low chill and fruit in a warm climate so they are doing fantastic! Thank you so much for your comment we really appreciate you.
@fruitmommy_2 ай бұрын
Hi 👋 these Cherries are actually low chill cherries with chill hours at 150-250. In this location we calculate 500 chill hours so we believe they are getting enough chill although since this was a rehabilitation of a cherry tree planted in poor soil years before we arrived the soil condition has affected the tree drastically and the tree was actually not fruiting until we began soil rehabilitation and so we are happy with the success. Your comment is awesome because you clearly understand higher level info about fruit trees!! Great job!!

Can you tell us what bugs killer did you use to keep your peach tree’s leaves looking so green and not curly
@fruitmommy_8 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely. When the leaves of your peach tree get curly and look weird it’s actually because of a fungal disease known as peach leaf curl. The way to prevent this is by spraying copper fungicide on the peach tree while it is dormant and sleeping. This is the part of the year where the tree has no leaves at all. If you spray it all over the trunk and branches of the tree three separate times Each 10 days apart you will have the tree protected so that when the leaves come out they are protected in the copper fungicide and it cannot get the disease that you are seeing. You can buy the copper fungicide on Amazon and it is organic.

Just so you know, Satsuma is not self-fertile. Check your source info.
@fruitmommy_ Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment, Beth! My source is actually my self for the last 20 years of owning a grove of Satsuma’s. They fruit beautifully every year. Actually, Satsuma is semi self fertile. Meaning that in certain microclimates with certain conditions present they fruit great on their own, but they are always enhanced with a second pollinating variety. Usually another plum. Sometimes a Pluot will work. I think different microclimates would definitely provide different results. Thank you again for your comment, we love all comments! It only provides more discussion on specific topics that people may not understand. Have a blessed day Beth. 🙏

Are you still having the cherry flies problem? Did the worm casting work to decrease their numbers? Besides cutting a cherry open, can you tell if a cherry has been infected by these flies? Like is there a tiny hole or indentation, some sort of deformity that shows on the cherry? Also what fruit tree nursery did you get them from? Beautiful trees btw.
@fruitmommy_ Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your comment! We have been working so hard that we have neglected, answering questions. I apologize!. Yes, the worm castings absolutely worked to decrease the Cherry fly number! It was incredible. Truly an organic solution. Besides cutting open the cherry, another great way to tell is if they have little pockmarks in the cherries that is the entry point for the worm. Also, if you look at the leaves of the cherry tree, they will look like they have been skeletonized. This is a sign that the worms are eating the leaves.

Hello there! Beautiful tree😊. I would like to know about the leaf color change. When and how long do the leaves change from green to purple?
@fruitmommy_ Жыл бұрын
Good morning and thank you for your question. I’m sorry for the delay in response. For the nectaplum, you will see deep purple leaves, beginning from dormancy for several months. When it starts to get hot in the middle of the summer, you will see the new growth be purple leaves, while the older leaves will change to green. During this time, it will be covered with beautiful pink flowers as well. So to answer your question, the main point of purple leaves will be from the beginning of the year through middle of July, but many will always be retained throughout the year.

Also, for the mites you need to purchase raw Organic Neem oil off of Amazon, I like the product Neem Bliss …… get a 1 gallon pump, sprayer from any home and garden store or nursery, mix the following solution and spray heavily underneath the leaves one time per week. 2 tablespoons Neem oil 1 teaspoon dish soap 1 gallon of water

@fruitmommy_ Жыл бұрын
Hi there, the mid pride is fantastic. It has a good balance of sweet and acid. The peaches can get very large if you thin the tree several times during the growing period of your fruit. The mid pride will come before Eva’s pride. I look at the Mid Pride as one of the first great peaches of the year. The later the peach, the better, the peach because of the heat converting to sugar. Any peach in the pride family is great.

@fruitmommy_ Жыл бұрын
Hi there, I got the trees originally as bare roots from Dave Wilson nursery in northern California. Dave Wilson is a large supplier for stone fruit trees, as well as other trees, most of the nurseries in Southern California carry Dave Wilson products. So you would be able to find the cherry trees at almost any nursery, including our nursery- Which is located in Chula Vista, California- couple minutes from San Diego.

This is fantastic! I am so happy for you. This is exactly the course the cherry trees take. They take several years to start fruiting, and once they start fruiting you are off and running! You should have a nice heavy harvest of cherries. Don’t forget the humic acid and kelp. It will really help their flavor! Congratulations and great job.

How are the roots on this plant?
@fruitmommy_2 жыл бұрын
Mulberry has very drought tolerant root system and large lateral rolling roots not considered highly invasive although at large size one root might push up concrete, I use these guys to lock in any hillsides that need soil retention and anywhere that is super dry or anywhere that you want to feed yourself and have plenty left over for the birds!

Do you know how to air layer cherry trees? If yes, please help me with when and how to do it, best time in the year, and what rooting Powder to use?
@fruitmommy_2 жыл бұрын
Hello my dear friend! You could try whore mix rooting powder for hard to root woody plants number 16 and I would pack the air layer with happy frog soil conditioner. Try to do it in spring when it’s pushing new growth and weight all summer and remove in fall. 💜
