I installed the same all in one struts, same brand on my P3 2008 XC70. They were pure junk. I fortunately kept my old struts to have the springs and now the car has OEM SACHs with new mounts on it.

dealer and rock auto are saying you need to replace the upper cable at the same time. I'm hoping with this video I can just do the lower cable. I tried the aftermarket bushing 14104 and it's useless and doesn't hold onto the nipple from the shift lever.

If you lose or break the clip go buy the bushings for the cables that can take a replacement . It comes with 2 bushings and a clip. Dorman 14104

Also, replacing the rear shock mounts is a better technique and will improve the ride. Shock mounts are like $25 each.

I strongly encourage a 4-wheel alignment after replacing the front and rear struts. Also, loosening the body-side bolts on the lower controls helps tremendously. Just remember to retorque in the "loaded" position (wheel at normal ride height).

08 xc70, as mentioned below,, with a few likes can not clear strut from knuckle! = my lower control arm bottomed out on frame, Need about 1 more inch lowwr. which prevents pushing down enough to clear strut out of the knuckle. Not sure why yours did . Another video the tech disconnects everything = much easier ... but I wish mine dropped as simple as yours.

That tiny clip you pushed out to separate the 2 cables , can that pop all the way out, or does it stop a certain point? I just didn't want to push on that tiny retaining clip & it pop all the way out & be screwed & not be able to get to back in.
@BlueLineGarage
@BlueLineGarage 5 ай бұрын
It comes all the way out, but it's super fragile. Once removed, it tends to stay bent open a bit, and if force is closed to it original size, it sometimes breaks off. So be delicate when removing it and placing it back on. If breaks, then I would order the other cable that has it. Swap parts for that small little clip and then return it back to the store saying you ended up not using it, and thats how u get a replacement clip since they don't sell it separately.

The correct way to do this is to remove the lower control arm. Other wise you risk damaging the strut beating on things with a hammer to get it properly aligned. Do yourself a big favor and remove the wheel well liner when doing this.

i found out that sometimes you end up with a different size than the one you plan on. I am sure this is not the first time the shock was changed and i myself lost bolts and replaced them with what ever fit that was not the original size socket.

Nice loft build, just 1 question? What type of brackets did you/they use to slide the 2x4 or 2x6 down into that's giving the support for the floor and what's being used to support the middle of the loft floor.

the beams going across are support enough. the side 2x6 were bolted into the main structure of the house. there's no sag and no need to support the middle.

Just my 2 cents and i have been working on ATV's and motorcycles my whole life, first off do not use red locktite use the blue, also I always put the bolts on hand tight just to make sure it lines up all the way around the spacer, also i always torque the bolts to spec thats just how i do things. Sidenote i jsut recently did my buddies RAZOR 1000 XP, we removed the sway bar and added walker evan shocks set them really soft, we installed some new 28 inch tires, and it rides like being on marshmellows cannot feel any bumps at all, and riding behind him through some rocks and sme creek crossings it looks like a spider, we did get some high speed body roll when going about 55-60 and making quick turns, so we stiffened up the shocks a notch or two and now it does really well, with all this being said a wheel spacer WILL NOT FIX ANY TRACTION ISSUES all a spacer will do is allow a little more room for larger tires, and give you a wider stance for stability so keep in minds kiddos do not believe everything you here!!!!!!!!!
@BlueLineGarage
@BlueLineGarage 5 ай бұрын
Hear? yes that is true but I also like don't believe everything you read as well. the spacers were really for stability and it sure did help from feeling the thing would roll over on a turn going moderate speed to feeling secure after the spacers installed.

"Pinch" fittings for McPherson struts are not uncommon on European cars. My 2003 BMW 325i had the same setup. Loosening the body-side bolts on the lower control arms allows greater lowering of the knuckle and makes the job easier. Try not to overextend the axel or you will have to guide it back into place.
